Numrich has 26" Varmint Contour Stainless Steel Small Shank in .300 Rem Ultra Mag...$79.95

$79.95 for one of the hottest .30 calibers out there, I think I saw somewhere 3500+ fps with 168 SMK BTHP...

I'm thinking I gotta get one just to play with...$60 to thread for a brake I'm still under $175 or so for a factory hot rod barrel. Savage steel aint bad at all neither...especially if you lap it some...

Jim Briggs of Northland Shooter Supply over on Savage Shooter forum is where it's at. You can snag custom prefits chambered and ready to go for around $300 or less. Sure it costs more than a factory Savage barrel but it's worth it imo.

Re: For you SAVAGE nuts...

Given that 300RUM has a reputation as being tough on barrels, an $80 investment to sample it before dropping big coin on a custom barrel ain't a bad idea.

Re: For you SAVAGE nuts...

Speaking of Numrich, does anyone know where I can get the E-clip for a Savage trigger pin. Mine went flying earlier today and Numrich is the only place I've found one and they want 4 freakin dollars plus shipping for one.

Home Depot sells E-clips

Re: For you SAVAGE nuts...

For shipping with Numrich, if you call, they almost always have the automated system give you a code for free shipping before you ever talk to a live person. I always call before ordering with them.

I just got a Shilen SS Select varmint from Jim at Northland shipped to my door for about $365. Took 4 days to get it and it is the nicest finish I have ever seen on a barrel. He also has Criterion, and McGowan barrels in stock along with all the wrenches, actions, recoil lugs, stocks, etc that you could need. Nice guy too.

$79 for a 300 RUM barrel would make for a fun project. Great ultra long range cartridge.
