I know there is a post in regards to the form 4, but for some reason, I can not access it.
I spoke with the NFA branch today, 24 August.
They are currently working on july and august of last year.
So, 12 month wait or so.

It will likely be licensed out for everyone to use.
    [h=2]Barcodes[/h]
We’ve been working closely with the ATF to take all the information contained on a Form 4 and embedded it into a barcode on the first page. This ground-breaking setup allows ATF staff to simply scan this barcode, which instantly populates the appropriate fields of the ATF database. By utilizing our barcoded forms, the ATF data entry personnel will no longer need to manually type tedious information into their system. A quick scan turns what would’ve taken several minutes into mere seconds, and then they’re on to the next form. This new approved system will benefit both the consumer and dealer by:
    Increasing ATF Speed
    • In testing the new barcoding system we’ve already submitted over 3,000 Form 4’s to the ATF, and the ATF time to process these forms has improved tenfold.
    Increasing Efficiency
    • Silencer Shop error rate for submitting post-41F Form 4’s with the ATF was close to zero before and now with the new approved process, it’ll be even lower.

That has been the standard answer lately, while there are plenty of approvals popping up from September through November. Who knows what's going on up there.

I'm itching for mine..got way too lucky with my 308 can with a 28 day approval when everyone else was at 6-8 months. Now I am in the 8-10 month boat with everyone else who submitted late 2016/early 2017.

The waits have been falling off very quickly over the last month, I've been watching because I'm waiting for a bunch from earlier this year. There are people on individual form 1/4's being approved that were sent in at the beginning of this year. Form 3's have also fallen off rapidly and are going through in a day which is a good indication things are moving along.

The market completely died after 41F so I'd expect them to get caught up fairly soon. Once they're caught up, the barcode forms are projected to be a month or so, the company projecting that know this industry very well.

For individual form 4's you are correct. I've seen guys from November and even December stating they are getting approved now and talk that in the next month they should be hitting January through March of this year. However for all of us using trusts the ATF is still in July and early August.

All Form 3's are efiled now (as of mid-August). We actually received an approved Form 3 in 10 minutes via efile on 29 August. It seems the manual data entry had been a serious bottleneck on processing all types of Forms.

Separately, the barcode Form 4 generator should be a tremendous help freeing up the data entry bottleneck for consumers that purchase new NFA items going forward.

    Got my stamp yesterday.
They mailed it on the 7th (Thursday), got here on the 11th (Monday), pretty damn good when you consider ti had to go through the Harvey wasteland to get here.

Mine was almost identical to yours.

Credit card processed for payment on 09/15/16.

    Approved on 10/03/17

    Received today ( 10/10/17 ).

Even the call taker(s) seemed embarrassed once it went over a year. Kept telling me "it should be close".

Individual submissions do seem to be getting processed way faster. We have received 2 that were sent in March.

This thread is not exactly giving me the warm and fuzzy's. The ATF cashed the check for my latest form 4 on 6/8/17. I was optimistic that I would receive the stamp in the next month or so. Based on what I am reading here I am beginning to think that is not a possibility.

Rule of thumb is typically 8-9 months.
Don't even bother calling till you hit 8 months.
Not sure why you thought 5 months would be realistic. It is the government we are talking about.

Well.................the store just got a stamp in today ( trust ) that we sent August 27th, 2016. I thought my September 15th submission was long. Longest wait we ( our store ) has seen so far.

I called on my f4 trust sent 10/13/16 and the lady said 12-14 months is the norm for trusts right now. I have 5 more after that one ranging from January to September. I hope to have them all by next hunting season, and my next few I may do as an individual because they will be for truck guns.

I have done this twice in the past and it took 4-5 months for approval, that is why I thought four to six months was realistic. I intentionally postponed my last purchase in an attempt to wait out the back log. It seems as though the process is slowing.

My first one took two months and that was two years ago. The next five took five months to the day. I wanted buy another last month and heard about the 12 month wait and decided it wasn't worth loaning money for that long. It's very disappointing.

why is it that filing on trust takes so much longer than individual? I'm waiting on 2 that are trust, check cashed in mid Feb 2017.

My uneducated guess is that, depending on how many individuals are on the trust, they are investigating every single one of those individuals listed on the trust, and thus it is taking longer.

Simply more paperwork for trust applications since 41f, so they are gonna take longer. There are some exceptions, but I'm seeing most individual form 4 applications returned in 7 months. I suspect that's gonna get quicker too.

I filed a Form 1 for an SBR, mailed out around April 18 2017. I just received my tax stamp this morning. I think it came in the mail yesterday, 10/16. So just about a 6 month wait on that one.

Filed form 4 around 4/18; the same time as the form 1. Just got notice 2 days ago that the dealer received the stamp. Almost exactly 6 months door to door

Here's a data point - we run backgrounds on individuals requesting access to a federal installation. It takes 3-5 minutes to run and review a background depending on whether they have a RAP (report of arrest and prosecution) sheet. I'd bet that people who are on a NFA trust have very little on their arrest records, if anything. I used to work as a CSI and would scan fingerprints into a computer system that would submit them to the FBI and would attempt to match them. That didn't take more than 5 minutes per person. I'm not sure what computer system their using now, but I'd bet it's faster. Just FYI.

Individual form 1 mailed on 11/5/2016

    Approved 10/28/2017

Got it in the mail today 11/6/2017

I have a form 4 that the atf has had about 3 months now so maybe i will get that back by next march-april

Heard from my suppressor dealer last Friday, thought I was picking my can up when I seen his name on my phone. (been waiting sense Jan.) Not meant to be, he told me they lost my fingerprint cards so I had to redo them and send them back in yesterday. Thanks FBI, ATF
