I have a set of rcbs .338 fl reloading dies that were given to me when I got my rifle. I want to replace them and was wondering if anyone has used both and found one better then the other.

Re: fosrster vs rcbs dies

Unless you're going to a bushing sizer, or, and a Micrometer seater, I see no reason to swap them. RCBS makes a fine product.
I hate the Rcbs sizer with the threded rod sticking out, but it is still good. Hate flesh hanging off the thing!
So I usually buy their x-die if available.
So unless you're upgrading, you're just spending money, IMHO.

+1 on Redding. I've had bad luck with with Forster seating dies. The spring clip that secures the alignment sleeve keeps coming off of the two I have. Bought Redding, problem solved.

I certainly wouldn't arbitrarily replace RCBS dies if you already have them.

Re: fosrster vs rcbs dies

A sizer is basically a sizer, they all work pretty well if the user understands their limits and how to obtain the best performance.

Conventional seater dies work pretty well, on average. Those with sloppy fitted short sliding bullet guides - RCBS' GM/"Comp" and Hornady's - may or may not work any better than conventional seaters but some people like them.

Forster/Redding make the only threaded 'straight line' seaters with a full length body sleeve which insures the bullet and case are held pretty well in-line before seating starts.

Micrometer seating depth thimbles are only user helps, they do absolutely nothing automatic about the precision of the finished rounds.

Very true, but they sure are convenient
