Hello all,

I'm looking for some suggestions for scopes to hunt fox and coyotes. I got a chance to fox hunt with a buddy and it was a blast.

Fox rifle will be an old sako vixen in 222 REM. I'll be using it to hunt foxes early in the morning and at night. Would like to keep the scope light, 2-10 magnification, and illuminated.

Predator rifle will be a bushmaster varminter. Was thinking of just throwing my Steiner military 4-16 on it.

I have a Gap 260 with Razor gen 2 and AO 308 with a S&B PM2. I figure they would also be good choices but don't want to drag heavy rifles around when I already have the Sako and bushmaster in the safe.

It may not be the most trendy or current option.... but I REALLY like the Trijicon Accupoint for a meat-n-taters hunting optic if you're not dialing elevation. And I bet for this type of hunting you're not. I think the glass is very nice and clear for <$1000 budget. The biggest thing for me is the illumination. It always seems to have just the right amount of illumination in low light... just enough to aim, but not too much to wash out the sight picture. Of course, the same can be done with electronic, but it adds an extra step. I find the triangle/post reticle very fast and intuitive, and short range accuracy capable if you use the tip of the triangle. The 3-9 version worked great for me.

Just a thought.....

While I haven't had any experience with Bushnell's 3-12x44 LRHS, I have owned a couple of the 4.5-18x44s - both MOA & MIL versions. These scopes have very good glass, and the reticle is great for hunting. The newest versions are illuminated. I sold the MOA LRHS I had along with the rifle it was mounted on, but have no intentions of parting company with the one I have now, which is the mil version. It's going on a 6XC hunting rifle that I'll be finishing as soon as I get the T3 stock I ordered for it from Manners.

I have a Leupold VX-R 3-9 X 40 on my predator gun. I love it! Has the ballistic firedot reticle. Works great in Low light and it works great while using a predator light at night.

Funny coming to a long range site asking about point blank optics (Meaning the furthest Ive ever shot a yote is under 200 yards). That being said, I have a friend who kills more dogs than anyone Ive ever heard of and he really likes the March 3-24. More than half the calling I do is in forests and the rare valley (bobcats don't come out in the open much and quick acquisition is more important than anything) and so I have a 1-4 and just ordered a 1-6. That and just a red dot aimpoint is what I use. Also great for coons and skunks.

Not ball busting, good question. But don't overpower, youll never use it...unless you get bored and want to shoot that annoying crow that wont leave you alone that's sitting at 300 yards. LOL.
