Assad is not a tyrant. He didn't put up with the muslim extremists (aka: real muslims). He's the last leader the ME has that isn't ready to nuke everything. He's western educated and was largely liked byt he Christians and others. Even my Iraqi ex loved the man and she hated Saddam. Syria is paying for a NWO agenda. The FSA is largely AQ related. There is an agenda, and it ain't gonna end in "freedom" but outright sharia law like we have seen in Egypt, Libya, etc. </div></div>
I don't entirely trust Wikipedia entries, but the portrait communicated here is much more mixed than what you report:

Agree
Assad is a butcher,a fascist and a ally state of Iran. Assad ordered the assassination of numerous Lebanese politicians and is the second biggest supporter of Hezbollah after Iran.

Assad has one interest his personal power, the protection Allawites- his tribe/clan.
His ONLY supporters in the international community is China, Russia-A.K.A. Putin and Iran.
IMO those who use the rational that the FSA is comprised only of Muslim Brotherhood radicals and radical Islamists has a very poor understanding of how this war came about. What is going on on the ground.
Turkey(a NATO ally), the EU and the US have all provided cash and military support to the FSA.
To those who think its amusing to see someone take a head shot fighting for freedom from tyranny. Fighting to save their cities and villages from shelling, bombing and the outrages of the Assad regime.
I suggest you think about how amusing it is to see criminals shoot law abiding homeowners in their own homes.</div></div>
The marginalization of Syria into being an ally of Iran is the West's fault, not Syria's.
Israel, whom I support, has stepped on their circumcision by not playing the angles better.
Syria is going to trade a run of the mill dictator for a thousand Assads just as Iraq traded one Saddam for many. What's worse, is that Saddam and Assad are not particularly into the game of Caliphate building and are secular leaders, whereas we are going to see a move towards a faux-theocracy with the emergence of a victorious MB/AQ/Etc. of Islamists.
Again, having a wedding to kick off the violent rape of the bride is stupidity at its finest. Only the West could imagine such a scenario as being good.
I find it ironic we support Dictator A who does the same things as Dictator B and then claim the similar actions of both as a charge against the one. Cognitive dissonance as a foreign policy modality is epic retardation born of "Enlightenment" philosophy.
It's disingenuous to suddenly support the very school of thought which we've supposedly been fighting since 2001 in an official capacity. It's so backasswards it can only come from a sphere higher than the inept and illegitimate US Government.
One can trace the US involvement to basically destabilizing the ME in a manner which only leaves the Islamists in charge and can only spell bad things, no matter the supposed party in charge. It's either a long-suffering game in which we will essentially become a non-benevolent superpower or it serves a global interest in the long run.
Assad, Gaddafi, Mubarak, and Saddam were really only bad for the Islamists. We've seen how well the last three's ouster worked for "peace" and "freedom". Please, let us spare Syria of the jihadi leader.
