Fuck...anyone ever get floored by the past?

Everything is most cordial between Kathy and I.
She married a guy right after I left to PCS and explained that to me within 2 letters we had exchanged, that she had moved on and I was OK with that.
I did try to contact her upon my return home but it only took one phone call where I talked to her parents and two brothers to let me know she was happily married and raising her family. Kind of a strange phone call in the fact that they all wanted to check up on me and see how I was doing. I really didn't think they liked me all that well.
I had met them all when running around with her and got along great with them and during that phone call they were all very nice and asked about how I was doing etc. but let me know to let things drop and I did.
The boy was raised by a fine hard working man with a brother and sister, a happy family.
He was killed in a workplace accident several years ago.
The boy knows who I am and where I live and knows how things went down. 45 years old now and very successful in life with a family of his own.
Other than to exchange pertinent medical information, they are clear out of my life and as Kathy told me,"Don't rock the boat,"
Were he want to be in my life, I would welcome him, but let Sleeping Dogs Sleep. So life goes. FM
It was a life altering moment when I first met him in that Mall after so many years and my Old Lady let me know the jig was up as she could see it too.

My buddy and I were in a local tavern in Bloomfield Center NJ, and a Marine Sgt. in uniform sat next. He looked familiar, and we did the 'where did we meet' waltz.

After drawing a complete blank it hit me/us. We had both met him when he was home on leave after escorting his younger Brother's remains from 'Nam; they were both over there at the same time.

His younger Brother was a younger member of our circle of friends; and we had all spent an entire Christmas party coaching him on the dangers of combat in 'Nam just a few months earlier. He was taken out by friendly arty.

Head shaker for sure...

That one stung bad.

Years ago I was in Vegas catching a show, think it was the jousting one, and saw a guy running towards me, almost full sprint from across the field. Half way he starts yelling my name. At first don't recognize him and then he says he went to USMC boot with me. Hell, that was 20+ years ago. Come to find out he and I were in 29 stumps together and he was working the show in Vegas. Nice guy and small world.
