Screw this $40 per hundred bullets crap, I love Berger and Lapua bullets but enough is enough. I was getting killer results with my AMAX's in my 6.5 at almost half the cost. I'm going to switch to AMAX's across the board and see how it goes. Sucks though, the 185 VLD did so well in my .308, I'm gonna miss that load.

I sense hostility

I'm sick of finding 30 bucks a pound powder. My normal mom and pop shops are gauging 32 bucks a pound for varget just cus they have some and everyone wants it. they can sit on it for that.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

Adam, tried to catch you at SHOT, but instead got another Adam impersonating you...

Btw, yes, much hostility. Tired of getting butt fucked by the "industry". Hornady seems like One of the few companies that are happy to have the boost in sales / interest which has come about recently, not just looking at it through opportunistic glasses.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

Jason, welcome to the hornady clan... I shoot mainly hornady's for exactly that reason.

The local shop in Charleston that sells reloading stuff (the ONLY shop locally) is pulling 28-32 bucks a pound for regular stuff like BLC-2 and RL22... They don't even have Varget on the shelf.

47 bucks a thousand for Wolf primers?

Every time I go in there the slimeball behind the counter tries to sell me an overpriced, usually broken, used gun. Last time I was there he tried to get me to fork over $240 bucks for a "really rare" Nagant M1895 Revolver...

I finally decided to say something and said "yah, not a bad deal at all. Looks like it was dug out of the mud, rinsed off and it's still a steal at 240 bucks... too bad I have a gorgeous one that only cost me $80... and they still sell for 80 from SOG"

I'm all for supporting the local shop until they repeatedly try to pull the wool over my eyes.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

I guess it's really more of a desire to support a company that seems to be supporting us right now, vs a "which bullets cheaper" thing. I understand about paying for quality, but a couple years ago Bergers were aroind $20 per 100, now they command double that?

Everyone threw their eggs in that "metals are up" basket, and raised their prices, now metals are back down, and they still raise their prices. Fleece someone else.

This is it in a nutshell. I never cried when metals were up and crude was $147 a barrel, but metals are now rock bottom and crude is at $75, so shipping and metal increases aren't a bona fide excuse IMO.

I got a $100 GC for Midway for Christmas and got 2 boxes of 155 Scenars on sale through Midway and paid $39.99 a box, down from $43.00!

Such a deal.

Problem with Hornady is, is that their stocks seem to be low on a lot of bullets.

I'm with you in supporting companies that support us.

But I will say this, metals are not back down. Cooper for instance is over $3 again, getting close to that $4 high that we saw. I track this stuff since it directly effects my work. From a few years ago, stuff like that has really gone from over $1 to over $3 now.

Everyone is still not sure who is buying all this to keep the demand up high, people are speculating another commodity crash in the near term.

I'm stuck shooting Sierras for a while since I still have a few thousand, but I'm with you, if you find a deal on Hornadys I'll be all over it

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

Welcome aboard! Love the Hornady line myself, obviously

A great company with people who listen and always trying to get shooters what they want and need. Keep an eye out for the 178 BTHP .308 bullets with the .520 BC

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

Havent looked @ Hornady for awhile, but are they making an amax in 308 185gr or 190gr? That was the only reason I use scenars and bergers is for the 185s, and the price sucks ass!

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

at my reloading vendor, the 168g 308 match hornadys are 120 per 500 box and the sierra 168 matchkings are 150 per 500, so when i use up the 300 i have left, ill also be going back to hornady. the last 2 100 count boxes of sierra's had bad ones mixed in, they had a big gauge in the side of the boattail and i emailed sierra and bitched, i pay 30 more per 500 and get junk bullets? also as a side note, i bought 2 boxes of bergers from cabelas last time i was out there and between the 2 boxes i bought there were 23 that had a deep gauge down the side by the ogive area but they dont seem to be interested in fixing their screwup so i wont be buying them anymore either

That's another reason, I've called Hornady to check on orders and also try to order replacement parts for my own screwups. They have been the nicest to deal with large company I've been on the phone with. The parts were replaced under warranty without a question.

No but keep an eye out for the 178 BTHP as it has the same BC as the 185s.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

I really like the 6mm 105 A-max and the 87gr. V-max. Shoot as well as any other I've tried, and I've tried most of them. Just came in from trying some 87 gr. V-max fireforming loads at 600. The 10" plate took a beating. Only running 2840, sailed real nice.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

The Hornady AMAX is a great value, as is their BTHP. Nosler is also making a good effort to deliver quality match bullets at very reasonable prices. Bullets of excellent quality at far lower prices than Berger, Lapua or Sierra.

No shit... They seem like a company with at least a fleeting concern for the people out there pulling triggers.

That 178 is all me, I like the heavies, but a 178 with a .520 sounds like tits!

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

I use Hornady bullets for alot of loads and the new 178 sounds very interesting.I dont get the cheaper claim everyone makes though.Weidners lists the 178 amax as $28 per 100 and Sierra 175smks for $28 per 100.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

Over the last 4 years of shooting Hornady ammo I have never been more happy. This ranging from loaded ammo to components.

Add in the fact that they as a company have been aggressivily improving the product line from ammo to reloading products and the fact that they want to cater more to the tactical and competetion community.

Its no wonder why more and more people are swithcing to Team Hornady!!

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

As if things couldn't get any better....

I bent the stem on my Creedmoor die ( my fault ), and they're sending me a new one fee of charge...

Love it.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

The best part about it all is that Hornady truly supports a lot of really good US manufacturers and distributors also.

Now if I could only get some 148gr LHBWC for the weekly bullseye pistol match.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

Rob, why did they go with a BTHP over the polycarbonate tip for the new 178?
With the current trend of meplat trimming and bullet pointing not using the tips synonymous with the AMAX line seems counter intuitive.

I e-mailed them about that. They said that due to the .338 bore they did not feel that the tip of the bullet could be made out of the same material as the 30cal A-max. They said it would have to be like the 750gr A-max in 50 cal and would be very pricy.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

I've pushed the Amax's on here for years not because they were less costly (which they were) but because they consistantly outperformed the Sierras in my rifles. Hornandy has always supported us (the shooter) and I'm still shooting the 178 Amax's I bought in a group buy here on the Hide years ago. Use them in all my .223 loadings too. Hornandy's a stand up company with first rate product.

okie

No idea on the decision MLC. Maybe due to bullet design. I have used some of the 168 BTHP bullets and they shoot great so i would expect the same.

As to where to get them, I don't believe they are out yet but keep an eye on any place that sells Hornady bullets and I am sure they will be there.

Re: Fuggit... I'm shooting Hornady bullets.

I hear you all! I haven't been shooting much for the past several years, but recently decided to get more serious about it. I'm still finding it hard to believe the prices. Fortunately I had a fair selection of components when I started back up. I've been reloading some hornady 168 hpbts that I bought a stock of at a gun show a while back.
Recently I bought a box of 30 cal TSXs here on the hide to try out. I set the TSXs on top of the Hornadys and couldn't help notice the price tags on the boxes--$39 on the Barnes $8.00 on the Hornadys! (yeah its been a while)
