Full length resizing issue

I'm using a Lee single stage press and Lee Dies(full resizing). My process is something like this, first I grab 5 to 10 brass shoot them with Horndy One Shot, resize then tumble and so on. During my last batch of .223 I had several (5% to 10%) that would not easily pop out the primer, I didn't force it. While on one such occasion I did force it and the picture below is the results of that(completely ripped the rim off. Am I doing the steps out of order? or are Lee Dies crappy? can someone help me.

Lee dies are fine. The primer isn't the issue, its a lack of lubricity. If it was the primer the case wouldn't be stuck in the die. Get the case out?

Definetly need more lube. Lube process is like everything else...find your groove and all will go better.

Find an old box.follow lube directions. And size. Assuming u r not using a pad?

Case is still in there, not sure how to get it out. Should I just chuck this one up as a loss?

RCBS stuck case remover, or just drill/tap the primer pocket to 1/4-20 and stack a few washers on the die and screw a bolt in until the case pops out. IIRC I use a 3/8 drive 9/16" socket instead of the washers.

I cursed Hornady One Shot the first time I used it. Stuck 3 cases in a row until I followed the directions to a "T". Let the brass set for about five minutes after you spray it, spray the shit out of it BTW, and it'll size like butter. I might have had 5 stuck cases in the past year, all were because I didnt let the One Shot set long enough.

Edit: And shake the absolute shit out of the can before you spray the brass. The lube settles if it sets a while and needs to be shaken so you get it mixed back up.

Also note: you can use the nerve endings in the arm you push the lever with and feel if the case is going to be a problem comming out. When you feet the case going in too hard, back it out before you end up with a stuck case. ReLube and try again.

Much agreement with "thespecialist." Take deep breath, get the removal tool, and get back in the game. All of us should have the removal tool on our bench. You'll be fine.

I put 50 cases in a shallow reloading block, spray up and down the block at a 45 degree downward angle from each side n,s,e,w

Also clean your die every couple hundred rounds, use rubbing alchohol, qtip, patches

Thanks for the advice guys, Ill be getting the RCBS case remover and using extra case lube from now on. I guess it doesn't pay to be stingey with case lube

Would it help to tumble before resizing?

Yes. The carbon, dirt, sand, etc on your cases can do some nasty things to the inside of your dies.

A stuck case remover is a definite "need" on the equipment list for reloading. I stuck my first piece of Lapua brass a few weeks ago. Funeral services were held shortly before the drill was located

Should I upgrade to the small base RCBS dies? These reloads are for a AR. Any benefits with the small base dies?

If the cases aren't too bad, a quick wipe down with a microfiber towel then a couple passes with the neck brush. This is what I do before lubing, and usually get through at least 200 rounds before I feel a bit of stick in my FL die.

Small base dies generally do little but work the brass more and increase the likelyhood of sticking it. If your reloads don't chamber and its not a headspace issue, you probably need small base dies, most ARs don't, RCBS are not the only ones.
