Well no. We are having a long discussion on why sailing is dying (over on a board where Joe biden is considered a member of the John Birch society. I walk softly but good sailing stuff).

So, the point I made is that we need to get people involved, or better yet, having fun. My concern is that when you have one pro steering, one pro trimming and the rest jsut hanging on the side of the boat all day, only two are having fun and the rest are jsut a poor excuse for lead. And, Not Having Fun!

So, seeing every one relaxed on Windward Passage, returning back to the west coast after the finish of the Transpac in 1979, I thought this was the picture of where we need to get back to sailing. Back to having a party…such as when my father and uncle sailed in the 1930’s.

This photo reminds of the story of the Battle of the Rufiji river in 1915. Here's a video about that battle. The narrator doesn't go into a lot of detail about the Germans camouflaging the SMS Konigsberg.

The video also leaves out the inestimable contribution of Major PJ Pretorius. More on that badass after you watch the video.

One other detail that the video also leaves out is how the British intercepted messages from the relief ship SMS Kronberg to the Konigsberg. The relief ship was sent to help out the Konigsberg in 1915. A year prior to this, the Russians sank the SMS Magdeburg.

On the sunken Magdeburg, the Russians retrieved a treasure trove of codebooks and handed them over to the British. With the codebooks and the newly created cipher department, the British managed to decrypt just about all German messages to their ships.

The video leaves one with the impression that the Germans would have sent plain text messages for everyone to read at their leisure. The messages would have been encrypted. It wasn't until after the war that the Germans found out about the captured codebooks on the Madgeburg.

Churchill couldn't resist bragging about that, in a book he wrote after the war, and the Germans weren't going to let that happen again. Enter the Enigma machine but that's another story.

So the video is just a primer on this fascinating story of determination and resourcefulness on both sides and now lost with the sands of time. Watch the movie then read about badass Pretorius.

Now that you have watched the video read the three part story about how one man became pivotal in the giant chessboard known as the Rufiji Delta.

This movie was supposedly made based on the story about PJ Pretorius and the Battle of the Rufiji Delta. It stars Lee Marvin and Roger Moore. Just like a lot of Hollywood productions, they get a LOT of facts wrong. Other than being a great work of fiction it's an entertaining movie to watch.

Lots of incredible work being done with addiction, crippling PTSD, severe depression and similar.

I’m an advocate for controlled use for these type issues.

I support legalizing all psychedelics too. Best thing about them is they don't kill you if you take too much. Then again I support all drug legalization. Was just making a joke here.

For those worrying about the ChiCom (Hop Sing-com) Navy….

Check out the structural integrity of that (bulk carrier?). I mean, Bud light cans and F150’s are sturdier than that.

And their new line of Carriers have major structural cracks in the flight decks after ocean service. Someone in navy have fortune cookie only half-baked.

Confucius say “making things in shape of ship not make ship you stupid Commies”.

I bet the products made in Taiwan (by the Real Chinese) are not cracking and folding like beer cans.
