With some exceptions, how is this any different than the status quo?

The Next “Greatest PRS Cartridge”? 17/50 BMG?
View attachment 8612781

I wonder how it would turn out if one were to 3D mold a .50 cal two piece sabot, with a tungsten needle dart of about .11 cal inside weighing around 60-100 grains. Loaded normally into a .50 BMG case with same propellant and charge. It'll be interesting as heck to see the massive velocity spike and what that dart can pierce and up to what range it is effective. It is a lot like Henry Bowman firing superlight nylon bullets out of his .44 Mag Model 29 in Unintended Consequences.

12 gauge shotshells would probably be the BEST platform for this kind of experimenting. A two or three piece discarding sabot with an expanding base hugging the bore upon firing, with a 100 grain tungsten needle at it's core. Not everybody owns and totes around .50 BMG rifles, but 12 gauge shotguns of all types are commonplace, portable, and would be part of numerous guys' vehicle and bugout kits. Mini APFSDS munitions would give the everyday armed person drastic armor piercing capabilities when the need arises. It can even be fired out of a slamfire pipe rig if that is what is necessary and that dart can almost certainly pierce anything below MRAP armor at 50 or so yards and chum up whatever/whoever is on the other side of the plate...
