Found this old Khaki set in a house we were cleaning out. Thought it was really neat until I got home and did a little research and had a closer look. The handle has 2 splits in it and the razor appears to be a 1918 civilian version as it is not marked property US Army. Bummer. Thought @Lawless might get a kick.

I’d like to know how they take it out. Can’t push it through and cut the barb off.
Step 1: Digital Block. Then ya can't feel a damn thing. Then hang a drape so you ain't gotta watch. Spend most of the time asking about the trip and the catches that day, the boat, engine, weather. Literally anything to distract you.
Step 2: I'd spend a minute debating between the brute force method of taking it back out the same way it came in (probably wouldn't work; barb), rolling it forward (depends on how sharp the tip is and how readily it'll piece the nail), and taking the nail out, rolling the hook through sans nail, and splinting the nail fold open.
Step 3: Grab some big ol' pliers because that hemostat just ain't gonna cut it. Use a thermal cautery unit to burn through the nail because I figure I can get away without taking the nail plate off completely. Rotate through opening in nail. Nip barbed end off. Rotate backwards out.
Step 4: Irrigate the shit out of you. Levofloxacin (salt water badness coverage), and Keflex. Direct you to go home for whiskey and sexual favors from wife.

Had a kid working for me shoot a 16D nail through his shinbone. You could see the tip trying to break through the skin on the other side. They tried just pulling it out and realized that wasn't going to work. Gave him some kind of drug and he had no recollection of it ever happening.

Hooked myself in the hand when I was a teenager, but not through a nail. They let me watch.

Had a friend when I was just a kid and he had to drill a hole into a 2x4, so he held it in his hand. Yes, you guessed it. When the drill bit cleared the wood, it continued all the way through his hand and out the other side. Even as young as I was, I thought that was a dumb thing to do.

My uncle Gary nailed his big toe to decking with a Bostich framing nailer. He was alone and luckily had his tool belt on.

He never could explain exactly how it happened, I had left about 30 minutes earlier.

Its kinda, well really, funny. I have worked the worst crashes and some of the nastiest stuff one can see for a lot of years and nail bed injuries still give me the heebie jeebies. If I see a bad one, I get all hot and need to sit down QUICK.

I literally got brain matter on my scrubs first day ever working in the ED at a level 1 trauma center. change shirts and go back to work.

I still can't handle them, but the are the only thing I can't really deal with and just keep truckin.
That fishing hook made my stomach turn, had to scroll quick!!

Yep. If I can locally numb ya, problem solved. If not, then it's off to sleepy land with Ketamine or Propofol. "10, 9, 8, sixxxxxxxxzzzzzzz....... (20 minutes that don't register in the brain) 2...1.. wait it's done? God bless conscious sedation the gnarly ones.

I've had a few minor surgeries with locals but my last didn't go too well. I had been chasing a diagnosis for swollen lymph nodes on my neck, and after almost 2 years and 4 needle biopsies and 1 surgical biopsy, I wanted an answer. My surgeon agreed, but with Covid hitting and hospital craziness, he suggested we do a surgical biopsy in the office. "We'll use a local and just pop out a lymph node, no problem." After 1.5 hours, varying levels of pain, the smell of cauterized flesh and a numb left ear, it was finally over. I did finally get a diagnosis of Hodgins Lymphoma and am on my way to being hopefully cured, but from now on it's sleepy land for me. :)

My worst surgery was cataract surgery. First eye went fine. Second eye, I could feel everything but I was in lala land, until the pain finally got so bad, I was able to talk and tell them they it felt like someone was cutting my eye ouot of my head.

You asked. And this is a pic thread.
Powdahound76 might be best to keep scrolling.

At work accidently stuck my thumb in a router Jan 31 of 19.
They took the meat from back of finger to fill the hole in my thumb. Hard to graft directly onto bone. Took graft from groin going into thigh to cover finger.

A week after accident. Before surgery.

After getting wrapping off on finger. Zipper down hand was to get blood vessel for graft. Graft was passed under skin to get to thumb.

I'm with ya. Locals do quite a bit, but for those longer ones, I'd prefer the gas too. Glad to hear you got a diagnosis and some treatment!
