I've been to every house except the "NYC Brownstone..."If you have already taken a house tour I suggest the back lot tours. The guides are very knowledgeable and the infrastructure and background is pretty amazing.
The land was pretty worthless because of deforestation and erosion.
The best of them is Hyde Park. It's also the smallest. That doesn't mean it isn't amazing... so much quality. But it is... small. Subtle. Quality throughout. Great innovations in its 'powerplants.'
Owned by the 'only' Vanderbilt heir who increased his fortune. He was a farmer. A breeder of animals and fruit/crops. He lived a very quiet and 'normal' life as a pillar in his (agricultural) community. Was a bit of a miser. His house was... not ordinary. But also not over the top. It is a stunning place.
If I could have any of the Vanderbilt homes... it would be the Hyde Park one. It's what Schloss Nitrocellulose would be if I had Vanderbilt money. Or at least wanted to spend Vanderbilt Money.
