That’s in Oregon City. Restaurant is pretty good there. Good views of the Willamette River.
It doesn’t say much for my character, but I haven’t been able to love a dog since losing the dog of my childhood. Got her when I was 5, lost her when I was 19.
I’ve liked other pets, but I haven’t loved other pets.

In my world, there are no pets. There are animals that I know, love and appreciate, but they have a job to do and a purpose to be.
Cats, rid the area of vermin. Good cats do a good job. Warpaint is excellent at this task. She is known and appreciated all over the neighborhood. When we had our farm, we kept several. Now, we have Warpaint.
Dogs assist in security. Not just securing from two legged snakes, but from all threats that walk or crawl on this earth. When we had our farm we depended on them heavily and our half Lab, Bear, kept everything at bay, including coyotes and two legged coyotes as well. Loosing Bear to old age was a serious loss, that we never were able to fully replace.
The cows, hogs and goats all provide food and income. And the all expensive horses. When we trained and exhibited show horses, the horses had a job. That job was to win horse shows, which would draw attention to our training stables and bring us business. The best we ever had was a little mare, "Fashion's Flirt." Little Flirt, won her class in shows in four states. She was the core of our business. And that brings us to Bandit.
Bandit was not wanted, but he was dropped into our lap (in the middle of a bike ride no less) and we could not leave him on the side of the road, starving and probably soon to be taken by a predator. His purpose as best can be determined was for Brenda, who wanted a lap dog but a.) we never found one and b.) every time we would want one, something else got dropped on us. So now we have Bandit and he is a mess, but the most lovable mess one could ever imagine.
No we don't have pets, but we do have valued companions. Companions; in life and I pray, they will be with us in the thereafter. (somebody's got to help St. Peter keep the riff-raff out of Heaven)

10 month old Barrie crashed out and 4 years and 8 month old Snow. got Barrie after my late fathers dog Johnny had to be put to sleep due to his back legs going on him, he was 14 or 15 years old as a guess. He passed last year 2 1/2 weeks before my father. Snow was a year in the pic with Johnny. Had a lot of dogs but these Maremma's are something else. Johnny was a Maremma cross, have no idea what the cross was.
Well another hurricane remnant coming right over us tonight. Last one did too, directly through my county

Lost my Maggie at age 16. Had a couple I "liked, " but not the same. Doglesss for about 40 years when the wife (I believe suffering empty nest syndrome) wanted a dog. I was adamant I did not want a dog. We finally compromised and got a dog.
Fast forward three years and I can't imagine the house without him.

Supposed to rearrange our yard later this morning. Not expecting as rough as Ian. The county has barely made a dent in debris pickup so I expect to pick up Ian debris...again.

On the subject of pets, here are a few rescues. The first is Eddie Manetti, we've had him for almost 5 years. He has it made and is very loved, as they all are. The next one (Calico Tortoiseshell?) is Abby. We lost her much too early at 4 years. She and I were very close. Very sad story. The third is Tigger. A friend found him abandoned in a truck yard, poor thing. We got him at just a few weeks old. Bottle fed him and loved him very much for 13 years. He lived a great life with a very loving family!

What is sad is that Bandit is biracial. One is white and one is black. Such uniqueness is hard to destroy. But, home is no place for a full blown Tom. (Yes we have photographic proof of this unique set of “Tomhood”)

At my wife's school there has always been an abundance of cats and since we live on a farm we have wound up adopting dozens over the years. Most of them live outside but a few become house cats. The big white Turkish Angora is Pete and the tortoise is Minerva. When we got Pete he was emaciated and not long for this world. Took him months to recover and is now a bruising 18 pounds and just a gentle as can be. Minerva although feral is just domesticated as can be and generally winds up in my lap when sitting. Pete is my bud and just follows me around the house like a dog and at my feet when sitting down.

I prefer to freeze my nads off and have sore muscles from hiking around stupid steep crap, days with 3500 ft elevation fain by 0900.
Thigh deep post holing in wind crusted snow across mtn slopes.
Wind so strong in blows you off balance every few steps.
Sleet feels like a sandblaster on yer face.
I just re-read that. I might be crazy.
But I love those days outside.
