It wasn’t quite this bad when we left, but The last few days in Chu Lai with virtually no support or guards on the perimeter, made the exit depot at Danang seem like a great place to spend our last couple of days
My worst return event after returning was learning that one of my best friends had died when I was in country. I was at a high school football playoff game and ran into his parents the evening I returned. I knew he had been seriously ill, and wanted to know how he was doing. No one had told me that he had died four months before.
