Good call I have been schooled and taken by fake news.
I read an account of his heavy combat in WWII and fighting in the Hurtgen that led to him being a big pacifist during Vietnam.
I think a lot of bad stuff happened in Korea that could make someone a pacifist without embellishing it by putting him in one of the most grinding battles of WWII.

My dad says that his grandpa (who died in 1981 5 years before I was born) knew alot of the actors on Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

Dan Block was born on 10 December 1928, WWII - Europe ended on 8 May 1945. Difference is 16 years, 4 months, 28 days excluding the end date.
Battle of Hurtgen Forest occurred 19 September to 16 December 1944.
Blocker was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. He had basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and served as an infantry sergeant in F Company, 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division in Korea, from December 1951 to August 1952.
