I built my first chopper in 78, on the dining room table as I had no garage. Wife 1 took pics while ongoing, got out in the snow covered yard like this and went for my first ride of the year. 35 mm camera skipped on the film = no pics . I’m still bummed about that.
I once saw a cycle that I wanted, that I had been drawing since childhood. In a motorcycle salvage yard in Clinton, Texas (near Greenville) was a 1969 Shovelhead, last of the old iron before the company got sold to AMF. King and Queen seat. Spring over coil front end to look like an old springer front end. Original gear case. 12 inch ape hangers. 22.5 degree rake on the forks with a chopped frame. So, still drivable, just stretched. The only non-stock part was the 42 mm Del Orto carb. All chain drive. Only problem was I did not have the 9k (20 years ago), which was a steal, back then.

Damn it.

It brought back memories of my step-uncle (brother of my first step-father) and his ride, also a 69 Shovelhead, painted and built to look like Fonda's "Captain America" except with a diamond-shaped tank instead of a tear drop. At 6 years old, that was my first ride on a motorcycle and my first ride on a Harley. I was a fan for life. I have so much HD books and nick nack around the house.
