Hello, It is possible to remove the Remington J Lock. Yes it leaves a hole. To do this. insert j tool. find the j's sweet spot. where it gets tight. take out j tool. use pliers and pull. it will come right out. if you need help let me know. Lynn

But then you are still left with an ugly spring - have you ever looked at the firing pin assembly on a J-lock bolt shroud/firing pin facotry set-up. For a few $$ its worth just removing and tossing the factory unit IMHO.

Oregonmuley, True the firing pin and spring leave something to be desired! -I was trying to remove a 'j lock' and had searched til my eyes crossed...then i started trying to figure it out, and did. Wanted to share the info. Lynn
