Sunny and in the 50's today, so went to Lake City shooting range about 20 miles east of Kansas City.

Following the recommended barrel break-in took over an hour to fire 10 shots. In that time I dialed the scope in and moved the target from 50 to 75 yards.

After the break-in, I had time to load the magazine with 5 rounds and move the target to 100 yards. Couple of thoughts -

Shooting in the new MO conservation rifle range with is basically a concrete box is LOUD. Wow. Probably join the Pioneer gun club 20 minutes east of me for open shooting.

The Night Force scope and trigger are stunning in operation.

The rifle and scope are built like a bank vault.

12 pound rifle/scope + Pachmayr decelerator pad + .308 Win = where'd the recoil go?

This is the first bipod I've used. After each shot the entire rifle/bipod jumps to the right and the target disappears. Hmm.

Rifle and range.

After the 10 shot break-in. Loaded the mag. Shot once at 100 yards. Changed the scope 4 clicks left and shot the last four.

I felt good about this 4 shot group as it was my first day with the rifle. Obviously, lots more accuracy to be found.

If the rifle is hopping that much after each shot, you might try setting up some good sandbags front and rear & then trying your groups again & see how they look.
Harris bipods are not the most stable on flat concrete benches.

I am not a fan of lake city because of the concrete. The rifle looks great. I bet half of your break in time was spent during the mandatory cease fires. They seem to come up fast when shooting. I really want to check out mill creek gun club in ks. From what I have researched, it's a pricey start up but the annual dues aren't bad. Pioneer gun club I believe has a 200yd range. I have been meaning to check that out too. Palma shooting range is another mdc run range in KC. It is similar to lake city as far as range set up and cease fire/breaks. The rifle is sweet looking. A TR is on my list of rifles to get. Maybe I will see you at lake city one of these days.

Geez....I would hate to have that as my only range option to shoot at. Anyway, that is a very nice looking rifle/setup you have. As already suggested, try some other types of ammo. Federal Gold Medal Match 168 would be a good choice and reasonably priced. The rifle/bipod hoping is a result of you not being square behind the rifle and not managing the recoil. This can be a challenge at first. There are some good videos on here done by Jacob at Rifles Only that will help you with this issue. The 2 DVD set that Rifles Only sells on their site is also very informative and helpful.

PS.....take that damn inspection sticker off your scope

Put a moving blanket on the concrete and pre-load your bipod to reduce/eliminate your hop. Try some match grade ammo and those groups will shrink.

My dad shoots here quite a bit. I plan on getting a membership when i move back to Kansas City.

We have a 400 acre farm in central missouri by between Camdenton and Warsaw. Maybe we should get a group to drive down together for a day of some precision shooting.

Nice offers by members here with open ranges. Join the Hide online training. Lots of good videos on fundamentals, bipods, position etc and new ones are added monthly.

When I move back I might actually be moving down TO my farm. If that's the case i'm gonna get my ass moving on making a dedicated range for 1000+ meter shots. It's in Climax Springs if you know where that's at.

Trevor is correct about your bipod hop. It will move a little but you should come back on target if you are using the correct fundamentals. It may also help with your accuracy. Not sure how accurate that whitetail stuff is but match ammo should yield bugholes, it's a GAP. Looks like a Thunder Ranch to me. Anyway, I'm sure you will get it shooting the way you want it soon enough. Congrats on a beautiful rifle.

State built it the landau mountain bike trails are right behind it. Those baffles stop the noise and any bullets from leaving the range.

That bi-pod hop is killing your groups. Put a heavy sandbag in front of your bi-pod when shooting off concrete and load your bi-pod against it. Also shoot top quality match ammo in that rifle or better yet tune a reload to that rifle and it will shoot ragged holes I would bet. Gorgeous rifle by the way. Shoot outside that place looks horrible to shoot in.

Below is a photo of the Night Force scope box to explain what I have. That inspection sticker took a blow torch to remove . Federal Match 168 grain is up next. I used the Hornady as break-in.
