Can you mount a picatinny rail on a standard G36 instead of having that God-awful red-dot/3x sight with handle that comes with it? I can't see for shit through the red dot because the window is so damn small and my cheek weld sucks when I try to use the 3x sight. Would a rail from the G36K just bolt right on? If so, where can I buy one?

Thanks all

Re: G36 Pic Rail?

You should be able to mount any rail that is made for the G36/SL8. Haven't seen a "K" rail with the "iron" sights for some time.

Cheek weld will still be pretty bad unless you add some sort of cheek piece to the stock.

Check Gunbroker (do a search for SL8, rails show up all the time), or HKPro.com. Put a "want to buy" post up. Someone will help you out.

There are at least four or five variations for rails:

Standand long polymer rail originally on the SL8-1

Aluminum rail on the SL8-6

G36k rail, polymer with back up iron sights

Doc Rak rail - aluminum and the lowest mounting option, short of cutting down one of the long polymer rails. Hard to find, but still floating around from time to time.

B&T rail - sometimes availible from DSArms.

Good luck,

Greg

Re: G36 Pic Rail?

I recently bought an aluminum rail from hkparts.net and I like it a lot. The reason I bought it was because I got my scope mounted by Mike from CS Tactical, good guy by the way, and he said he couldn't torque down the rings on the rail with the suggested amount of torque due to the polymer rail from the SL8-1 being too weak. So that's when I bought the aluminum rail from hkparts.net for $60 and from what I can tell, it was a good buy. If you want assurance, chopstix kid from hkpro.com, a G36 guru, actually suggested it to me.
