Contact your state Senator to support Senate Bill 93 TODAY!

Tomorrow, the Georgia Senate will consider and vote on Senate Bill 93. SB 93, sponsored by state Senator Bill Heath (R-31), would allow hunters in Georgia to use lawfully-possessed suppressors on firearms while hunting.

Currently, more than half of the states across the country permit hunters to use suppressors while hunting. There are numerous benefits associated with the use of suppressors, including increased accuracy due to reduced recoil and muzzle blast, protection from hearing damage and reduced noise pollution. Noise complaints are being used more frequently as an excuse to close shooting ranges, informal shooting areas and hunting lands throughout the country. Increased use of suppressors will help to eliminate many of these complaints and protect hunting and shooting areas well into the future.

Most recently, Arizona, Oklahoma, Indiana, North Carolina and Texas adopted new rules allowing for the use of suppressors while hunting. It’s time that hunters in Georgia are able to enjoy the same opportunities available to sportsmen in more than half of the country. For more information on firearms and suppressors, click here.

Please contact your state Senator TODAY and urge him or her to support SB 93. Contact information for your state Senator can be found here.

Just got this from Senator Butch Miller:

Dear Glenn,

Thanks for writing. I'm happy to report that SB 93 passed the Senate today and now continues to the House for consideration. This bill has my full support.

Sincerely,
Butch Miller

Let's hope the house can get it through this time!

My State House Rep - Not good with NRA or GACARRY.ORG

I've got a Atlanta Local RHINO for my State House Rep (DIST 52 Joe Wilkinson) that has a bad record with the NRA and GACARRY.ORG so he votes no on anything having to to with guns...... after 14 years in the house hopefully he will get out soon or will be replaced by the pro gun side.

Doesnt have the balls to answer emails.

Georgia: Senate Passes Bill to Allow Hunting with Suppressors

Yesterday, the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 93 by a 43-10 vote. SB 93, sponsored by state Senator Bill Heath (R-31), would allow hunters in Georgia to use lawfully-possessed suppressors on firearms while hunting.

Any update???

I heard that the House was gutting the Carry Conceal Bill that would have expanded areas where LAWFULLY PERMITTED Carry Permit owners could carry. Nanny Bloomberg is spearheading the effort to squash the bill all together.... go figure.

I was at the Capitol yesterday. There is a lot of "horse trading" going on right now for the different gun bills. This is the last update I got.

POLITICS IMPACT GUN CARRY AND MEDICAL MARIJUANA BILLS

This week saw no shortage of classic end-of-session shenanigans. HB 875, the main gun bill this year, was languishing in the Senate. Using some political maneuvering the House forced the Senate to consider the measure.

On Tuesday Senate changes to HB 60 (the bill that would allow retired judges to carry weapons) were before the House for consideration. Rather than just agree to the Senate's changes, the House inserted much of HB 875 into HB 60 and immediately transmitted it to the Senate. Having already had their opportunity to amend HB 60, the Senate's only option now will be to take a straight up or down vote on the amended bill.

I am certainly looking forward to the signing and wish I could be in attendance. If anyone does go please post pics.

Georgia Carry : An information clearinghouse for Georgia Firearms License issues and news

It is no longer necessary to call Governor Deal concerning HB60. Below is an invitation GCO received from Speaker David Ralston for all members of GCO to attend the signing of HB60. The invitation below is self explanatory.

On behalf of the bill sponsors and myself, I would like to invite you and your membership to Ellijay next Wednesday, April 23rd, at the ETC Pavilion on the Coosawattee River where Governor Deal will sign House Bill 60, the Safe Carry Protection Act of 2014. The bill signing ceremony begins at noon. After that, a BBQ lunch will be served open to those who can join us.
The address for the ETC Pavilion can be found below. Thanks and I look forward to seeing you and everyone in Ellijay next week.

I hope he does sign it. There are some Sheriff's and Judges here in South GA that are urging the Gov not to sign it claiming that part of the bill that deals with the rights of the weapon carrier when dealing with Law enforcement... is not Law Enforcement friendly. I haven't read the passed version, so I can only rely on the crappy news releases and we know how accurate the media is.

Anyone have clarification?

Freedom Wins! HB 60 will be signed by the Governor next week at a ceremony that will include a BBQ lunch with members of Georgia Carry represented. Suppressors will be legal in GA for hunting.
Great you you guys. We need all the freedoms we can get in these troubled times. Luckily, our freedoms have never been threatened here in Arizona, especially, with Sheriff Joe!

HB60 is Law!

Hear hear Gentlemen,

HB60 is now law. Hallelujah. I celebrated today's signing with a visit to Accurate Ordnance and adding an Octane 9 and another Element 2 to my inventory. There are too many news sources to list, but here is one that may be noted for its complete absence of any insight whatsoever:

The comments made by the Times readers are interesting. The difference in attitudes towards guns by west coasters vs. Southerners is striking, not surprising, but striking. Makes me think more and more that we are developing into 2 completely different cultures with totally opposite values within the same country. Both sides are becoming less tolerant of the other as the values become more extreme, and I wonder if this won't become a huge issue for us (US) in the future. I'm glad I'm in the South and I feel for all of you that have to live in the "Blue" states. I'm beginning to think that there could be a major "event" that changes everything in my lifetime. Six years ago, I wouldn't have thought such a thing possible, not anymore.

The polarization of America has practically become a field of academic study. I think it's not the polarization that causes tension as much as it is when there is an attempt at controlling, or at least influencing, the other side*. I think your comment reveals a little bit of this. While you, and me, mourn our brothers who live under the weight of blue states (I think it's really mostly blue cities with the exceptions of Cali, NY, MA, and IL) and leave it at that, the opposite is hardly true. There is a fantastic effort by blue states and cities to exert control over everyone else. The list of such efforts currently underway fills volumes, and I have several personal examples. I believe this is the source of tension, and a possible future snapping. Which is quite unfortunate.

Atlanta, being the 12th on the FBI's most dangerous cities in America and being represented by CNN and the Atlanta Journal Constitution (their pages are flooded with comments on HB60), have proclaimed that the far reaching and deadly consequences of HB60 will be executed by our native red necks. This is farcical and a refusal to look in the mirror. Atlanta shares much more with Baltimore and Oakland than it does with Tifton or Elijay. Atlanta could only hope to have the violent crime rates of those last two cities, but what they do is point to them as the source of the problem. Their effort is to control others in a manner that, I believe, they wish they could control themselves. Which is addressing the wrong party entirely. Brace yourself for more of that in the future.

*Edit. To be fair I need to say that there are some on our side of the fence who press the blue states on certain issues, but the balance of effort is woefully tipped to the left. Suppressors, which is just a small part of HB60, is a hot button issue due to sheer ignorance.

On this note, I had an interesting discussion about suppressor usage in hunting with someone who clearly had never heard and knew nothing about their regulation the other day. This person, an ATL native, claims to love hunting etc however seemed to not understand the added benefits to his health by using a suppressor. I tried to explain to him the benefits and that not everyone would use them anyways because of the ATF approval necessary for their ownership but it was just an uphill argument the entire way. It seems that people only want to believe what they see in movies about suppressors (or silencers as they are often labeled) and not listen to people with actual knowledge and use of them. I guess you can't fix ignorant afterall.

My brother-in-laws mother, who is a politically active gun control supporter in the northeast, responded in an alarming tone to me bringing out a suppressor by shrieking, "what if that thing goes off?!?"

Now let's see if DNR can get it together and put it in the regs by July 1.

To me, this bill was about CHOICE.

Ability to carry in bars and churches... Ability for school resource officers and teachers to be armed...etc... Are now up to the decision of the establishment. They can choose to allow them or not, instead of a blanket ban across the state (or nation).

FREEDOM to make a CHOICE is what this country was founded on.

But slowly we (this country as a whole) are losing our freedom to make a choice.

This transplanted Jersey boy is greatful to live in Georgia.

My family still in NJ is appalled that I was in favor of this bill.

Amen brother. My family arrived in NJ a looooong time ago, and I spent 4 years there. The NJ branch of the family regards the Southern branch with a touch of caution. But one-on-one a few of them dissent and long for a touch of the Southern life. Bwahahaha!
