Anyone with experience selling a GAP rifle? What kind of depreciation can I expect for a rifle with 500 rounds through it chambered in 6.5 CM?

I'd expect to recover 80-90% back if I was patient. If you post a firesale you could recover 75% immediately. Gun market is flooded at the moment. I'd also wait for another anti-gun bill and you could probably sell for a profit when it's announced. (Not to be political but its a trend that people buy when they think shits about to get banned).

Good point.

there are a lot of good rifles on the second hand market right now but given that it's a caliber that is "hot" right now, and a known good smith, you should be able to do well with it. Haven't checked into their wait times recently but that's a big factor with folks looking for a new rifle.

put it up for sale at a price you are happy with and see if it moves. If it doesn't, mark it down till it does or you decide you would rather keep it for that price. Locally I see some stuff that sells in minutes that is priced very well, other things that are priced over retail sit for months and the seller wonders why their item doesn't sell (because they bought it way too high and want way too much for it).

If this was an AR or another semi auto gun id agreed. Bolt guns don't seem to inflate as much as those during a ban scare.

I think 60-70% is about fair. GAPs are already overpriced as is and there are just too many good cheap options to pay that premium. Bolt guns are a dime a dozen and who knows how long the barrel has left or what was put through it. Look at used cost of components then take 50% off of Smith fees + a hundred bucks or so for it being a gap and that's around where I would value it.

That's not a bad way to look at it. Probably also something to say about no 6-8 month turn around times so that may add just a little as well

Besides being flooded at the moment, the trouble with the high-end gun market is that many people will pay the extra $300 - $500 to get it brand new and get exactly what they want.
Even if the rifle for sale is exactly how I would build it I still wouldn’t buy a $3500 rifle for $3000.

Sounds about right to me.

15 years ago around here, when GAP was one of the few known quantities when it came to builders, when .308 was still popular, it would have sold within a day.

Way to many good builders and newer technology that make a traditional bolt gun requiring a smith to rebarrel , results in a devaluing of them.

Then again there are some old crustys around here who still have flip phones that would probably use 4 months of fixed income to buy one.

I have bought multiple 4500 dollar rifles for 2800-3k in the classifieds. You are going to lose money on a custom build, even the AXMCs aren’t selling like hot cakes any longer. The fact that you can buy a factory rifle, Bergara or others, that shoot just as well as most customs have shut down the custom resale market. All that being said, I’m looking for an 6.5, pm me me if you’re looking to sell.

Sure, if you can get GA Precision to call you back. That seems to be a huge if!! Anyone have one to sell?

I haven't ever shot one but hear great things about them. With the GA rifles I wouldn't be surprised if there was a slight price bump due to the great brand they have built.

That being said if a shooter is contemplating the $4,000+ custom gun route then they most likely will pay the extra $500 over a perfectly good used gun for brand new and Exactly what they want ...

Remember the gun chooses you not the other way around ...

I currently own 2 GAP rifles and have sold another. I sourced the parts for 2 of them myself. I had called gap for some advice. They told me to put all my parts in a box, write what a wanted and send it in. First rifle took 6-8 months. Second one 2 months. They are absolute hammers. By doing this I avoided a premium as there labor cost is the same as many other quality smiths. Even cheaper then some. I sold the first one and lost about $750. I was jumping from one platform to another and needed to sell quickly. The third gap I own was purchased of the for sale section here. It would cost me $1300 more then what I paid to get into this rifle new and that's before the custom paint on the stock. It was barely used and it's a laser. Couldnt be happier. I have been offered more then I paid multiple times to sell it.

As a seller you have to really be honest with yourself on what you have and being willing to let it go reasonably. If you used quality parts you have a better chance of recouping your money.

High end rifles dont retain their value well unless its an AI :) Depending if you happen to just land it in classifieds someone is looking, the problem with a custom gun is people pay premium to get it 100% to their liking, the likelihood your liking is the same as someone elses isnt high. So for a typical $4500 gun expect mid 3's before someone is willing to forgo their needs and align to the rifle you have.

Buying used may only be $500 cheaper sometimes but for some it’s still worth it to go used to avoid the possible 6-8 month wait
