GA Precision Templar V2 Action price

First post on this forum but definitely read a few threads along the way.

I'm starting to get the itch to build a precision rifle for long range target shooting. I have always liked the looks of GA products and the Templar action appeals to me. I've also looked into surgeon actions. Seems like a better fiscal decision to buy one of these actions over a remington 700 and have all the work done by a local smith considering I'm just gonna strip the gun and put everything I want on it anyway. Does anyone have a rough estimate on the price of a .308 Templar 2 action? I've been looking and I can't figure it out. I'm sure it varies a bit but I'd like to get a ballpark figure of what I'm getting into.

Other items I've looked into are bell and carlson medalist tactical stock, shilen barrels and trigger and having a smith out the gun together. Scopes that interest me are vortex or Leuold mark 4, 4.5-14x44. Night force/us optics are out of the price range. Rings are still a question. Anything I'm over looking?

The Templar is only available from GAP on full builds. Give them a call and let them build you a rifle. It's a 1300.00 ish action

Will they use parts if I sent them what I wanted or had on hand?

Yes, Chips is right. Defiance Machine is Glen Harrison's company that manufacters a myriad of firearm components from AR15 received sets to DBM's and of course what they are most famous for is their very high quality bolt action receivers.

They make actions for GAP, RWS Gunsmithing, Short Action Customs, Spartan, Rbros...you get the picture, a lot of the the most prominent smiths on the Hide choose Defiance actions to base their custom rifles off of.

The Templar V2 is essentially the Defiance Deviant action. A very nice action and it would be an excellent choice to build a rifle off of.

Defiance Machine actions make a great base for a custom rifle. I think they have put some good thought and design work into the way the extraction cam works and they cycle very smoothly.

I've been going through this for a month now as well. I have researched actions to death and really like the Defiant Deviant but also like the Bighorn offerings. I am left handed so I have less options than you. Surgeon is no longer offering just actions. They may start again from what I have read but who knows.

Maybe you can help me out with a few more questions on the topic at hand, fluting the action, yes or no? Plunger ejector seems to have good and bad points. Good being clearing the previous round, bad if you end up launching brass.

Should I get a replacement bolt or no?

Part of me feels like if I buy once I cry once and can end up making a top end rifle I can grow into it with experience. And save myself on cost over the long run. I know I want a fixed floor plate (mags just add a new expense, for minor returns).

Dropping 1500 on an action makes sense if I know I won't have to replace it again.

Well unless you find a Surgeon on the secondary market....your not getting one unless you order a complete rifle from them.

I just received a GAP Hospitaller with a lefty Templar VII I could not be happier. It took a little time for the action as I was told it was the first VII they did as a lefty but now that the wait is other it wasn't that bad.....

norcal, Templar, aka Defiance looks to be a good action offering. You may consider Bighorn also, great features, quality machjned product, AJ & Diane are great people to talk to & deal with, great buying experience.

If you call Glen at defiance machine and tell him what you want, he will set it up exactly the way you want. Left bolt right port, no problem. Anyway you want it. You could call GAP up and they will get it exactly the way you want it from defiance but it will have the Templar crest on it and will be spec'ed to the T. If you are gonna make a switch barrel with a diff bolt face then you can get the bolt at that time. I don't see you breaking one of his bolts though, they are one piece. Haven't had a bighorn action yet but would like to try one in the future.

Bugholes.com is going to have some deviant action in in the next few weeks (early Mar), which is basically the OEM (Defiance) brand of the Templar V2 action. This is where I got mine. I was going to make my grand entrance into the SnipersHide arena showing off my Spartan Rifle build, but egh...in a couple weeks I should have my custom in hand

A buddy of mine ordered a Defiance action and had it made out to the templar specs. The thing is you just can't get a templar action with GAP's logo on it cause like said above its only used for their builds.

I'd love a Templar action but I was hoping to build it my way. I'm thinking I'm going to need to start calling people and figuring out what my options are. My ultimate goal is an F T/R class gun. If I'm gonna pony up the cash for something like this. Part of me wanted to buy it in components so I could build it on my timeframe as I was able to get parts.

I collected the Stiller Action from a group buy here on the HIDE
The Barrel from Bartlein
Bottom Metal from CDI
Stock from Manners
Trigger from Brownells

Then I called Ken Lin at GAP and they assembled the rifle from the ground up that way I was able to spread the costs over about 14-18 months and I had the rifle I wanted that was unique.

BTW if GAP chambers the action and does a bed job on a new rifle then they will place their logo and back up the accuracy. Just a great way to go if your on a budget and can afford to wait a little but you had rather Buy Once and Cry Once in my opinion.....
