I had an order in on Dec18 for 3000 rounds .223 AE , it was showing in stock when I placed the order... I was assured on Dec.31 it was def shipping on Jan 7th...just got the email my back order was canceled, they told me American Eagle canceled all of the backorders....

AKA, the going price basically doubled which probably meant they were going to lose a bit of money to fulfill your order.

How were you assured on the 31st that it wuld ship the 7th if you ordered it the 18th? First off if it showed in stock, it should'nt of taken them 2 weeks to ship. If you called and it was on back order, sadly they can do this.

Was in the local gander and they told me the same deal about American eagle canceling all the back orders. Sadly we're stuck like this till things calm down.

I doubt it was Amerian Eagle, I have been assured by a couple of very smart guys on this very board, that only the retailers are making a windfall profit, the mfgs are only making extra profit due to volume. It sounds like someone thinks a MFG such as American Eagle is holding out for more money, ie cancel back orders, only ship under the new price point. This can not be true. If so, it would mean mfgs are making a windfall profit not due to volume and retail sales (most sell retail off their web page, very high price point but sell nonetheless), but off of new-very high pricing-because the free market is at work.

Um, Gander Mountain screws everyone. Worst ammo and gun prices in my area by far! I hate chain stores.

Yep...the first time I ever bought FGMM 168gr ammo, I paid almost $50 for a box of 20 at Gander Mountain. It was my fault; I didn't do any research on pricing before I purchased it. I was a little irritated when I found it on Palmetto State Armory for about $20/box. I haven't shopped at Gander since.
