Anyone using the NF 2.5-10x42 on their GAP-10? I just ordered one for mine. . . curious what ring height you are using? I have some Badger 1.125" but obviously would like to go lower if there's clearance. I'd like to have the right rings in hand when that glass lands! Thanks.

edit: just realized this was post one. geez. been lurking here for a while, thanks for the great site. jf

If you go to low you might not get the correct cheek weld. Can you take your rifle to a sporting goods store and try some rings and maybe a riser might be needed. I did this with my M4 and it seems to have a perfect cheek weld now. Well I am getting a new upper from WOA and sent away for a two piece Nikon rings to replace what I have now to save some weight. I was told that these new ones will be a little lower, but the cheek weld will be O.K. When I get the Nikon rings I'll find out if the cheek weld will be good????

As tickled pink mentioned, unless you have a concave face or doing nothing other than shooting off a bench, you will need rings/mount right around 1.5" off the top of the rail, in order to get a proper cheek weld. An AR is not a bolt gun.

Not true.

I've always found 1.5" to be pretty high. Un;ess you have an elevated cheek piece on the stock, you'll never have a very solid cheek weld.

NF lists the objective diameter of the NXS 2.5-10x42 as 50mm, which is 1.97". Half of that is 0.985". This would give you 0.5625" clearance between he scope and rail. If you factor in scope/lens covers, that may be a little tight, and won't clear any BUIS if thats an issue for you.

From the jaw-bone of an ass. he he

Thanks fellas. I got a quick email back from Corbin at Eurooptic as well, confirming that the high mounts are the way to go. I'll start with the 1.125 and go from there.

Everyone is different. The mounts that put the center of the scope 1.25-1.5 above the rail are perfect for me with an AR. Any less and I feel like I am putting too much cheek pressure on the stock.

Order several different heights and send back the ones that don't work.

I run a NF 2.5-10 x 42 on a 308 AR and use a larue LT-104 (SPR 1.5) mount. This puts the centerline of the optic 1.5" above the top rail and approximately 2.8" above the centerline of the bore. I measured the outside diameter of the objective lens which is 50.75 mm or 2.0". This set up gave me ~.45" clearance between the objective lens and rail.

I also measured a set of med height rings (TPS) and they wer ~1.0" to the centerline of the rings. If you used a med height ring that measured 1" to centerline with a 2" objective, the objective would be touching or very close to top rail.

Hope this helps out

I've found that anything in the neighborhood of 1.4-1.5" is ideal for an Ar. Personally, I use the ADM Recon one piece mount on my AR15s and 308ARs. Easy to remove and easy to adjust forward or back for coarse eye relief. Larue is also another one, but there are quite a few others available.

I just realized you listed for a GAP 10. They use a POF chassis so the top rail sits a lilttle higher than a normal AR10 platform. What stock are you using? My friend with a POF had to use a PRS to get a proper cheek weld. Hope that helps

Dude, the rail on a POF or GAP 10 is much higher than standard AR. The post referenced above was a picture of my rifle, a POF. 1.0" will not clear the rail if you have a solid rail. 1.125" is perfect, and puts the scope at 2.8" over boreline. Use the rings you have and adjust if you need to. I don't think you will as they're exactly what I ended up with after using 1.0" rings for a few weeks just because I wanted to go to a Unimount and add 20 MOA.

Using a Nightforce 1.125" Unimount now and it's perfect with a 0.5" riser an my Magpul stock.

If you go with a 1.5" mount like an ADM Recon or an AADmount as other have suggested you will find it is WAY too high, I know because I tried that and it was impossible to get a good cheek weld for precision shooting. Felt like an ostrich.

Well, scope is in...I mounted a LaRue one piece 1.5" that I had lying around and it seems cool. I also have the Badger 1.125" rings to test. First day on the range tomorrow and will report! I'm using a Magpul PRS stock.
