too SLOW only makes 2640 with the 140, makes it a 308 Balisticly with little recoil. </div></div>

Exactly why I gave up my 6.5CM gasser. The 6CM sounds like an outstanding way to go, and as Rob said, "watching this one"!

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!!

OK George, 7 mils to 1K, you convinced me, send it to me and I will "match proof test" it at PMG next month.

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!!

In the past, I've watched shooters using the .243 develop fouling that led to accuracy degradation before the match was done.
This was with quality barrels.
I absolutely love the 243 ballistics/recoil, but have watched others have difficulties with the endurance of accuracy.
(they were all pushing around 3200 ft/sec)
My .260 holds up accuracy wise, and I just figured it was because the velocities were a little tamer than the .243 Win (so are the ballistics).

Have you had fouling issues with this set-up?
Has the accuracy remained long enough to shoot a match?

The 6mmCM should be able to run with the best.

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!!

Watching closely...
I can feel my pocket thinning already. Will you post the pricing on the upper on the web site? Or is that a call Ken and request?
(after it is complete of course)

Its a little warm, cycled fine but the the primers were cradering a touch. Guys thats puts the 1000 yard hold at 6.7 mils. Ill drop the load to 42.5 and it will still be in the 3080fps arena. Thats puts it at an exact 7.0 Mill hold at 1000. I shot 2 groups both at 1/2 MOA or better.

The 115 Dtac's did well got 2980 with 42 grains 4350, dropping it to 41.5 at 2950 and thats puts it at 7.3 mils to 1000.

This is going to be an awsome setup. Im going to get Hornady to set up and make a run of Dies and possibly Brass correctly headstamped. </div></div>

So with a say a 24" you can possibly get the speed gained that you lost with the .5gr of powder correct?

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!!

Sounds like a great idea George! Just the other day, I was looking at a 243 Win hand loaded with a 115gr DTAC and thinking about what it might take to get this firing through my LMT MWS. Started pulling cases out of the collection to see but couldn't find anything that really fit the bill without too much trouble.

I think the 6CM nails it, especially with the 105's. Any chance you would put together MWS barrels to swap in and out at will?

Been dying for a competitive gasser....

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!!

OK, back on this, Loaded up more ammo tonight. 41-43 grains of H4350 with the 105's

Hope for 3050 with the 105's

Dropped the 115BN load to 41 grains and that should be it

Hopping for 2950 on the 115

Shooting in the AM

Ill post results and pics tomorro

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!!

Range trip went well. Predicted Numbers fell into place.

Temp 81 Deg, 5 mph wind from 1100 o clock

Best Hornady 105 load was 42.5 gr H4350 Avg Vel 3070 ES 15 SD 7

Best 115 Dtac Load was 41.5 gr H4350 Avg Vel 2964 ES 8 SD 4

23" Bartlein 1- 7.7 twist barrel

the 115 load still had a little primer cratering. nothing bad and there were no failiures at all over 80 rounds.

I shot 5 random groups of three all were different load combinations average groups were 1/2 MOA or better

Next step it to take these loads from 100 to 1000 and post results. the 105 load should be 7.2 to 1000 and the 115 load should be 7.4 to 1000 both with a 1.5 Mil holdoff for a 10MPH full value wind. This is absolutly awesome for a 23" gas rifle. This puts it near equal to a 25" 7mm WSM shooting 180 VLD's

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!!

I can't even tell where the monolithic rail ends and the woodgrain begins... Another SOLID rig George! I'll be callin Ken in the morning to place my order.

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!!

So i don't know if i missed it or not but is there a reason to size down creedmoor brass rather than just build a 6xc? I haven't ever seen a 6xc semiauto so maybe there are some issues i don't know about. I just know i hate making brass, but if george is going to have brass already made by hornady put me on the list to order one of these when they are available.

I do love me some 6mm's

I believe hornady is going to be making brass. Especially when this idea catches and more and more 6cm are built. Don't quote me though.

Re: GAP-10 Match Rifle Idea!!!!

I just pick up a used Gap built ar-10 .308 so I am really looking forward to see how well I can drive it. I figure that they will have this setup ready by time I get ready for my next rifle.

It came off a prize table at one of the matches. Not sure on the brass and dies... I'm sure George will chime in.
