What would be an awesome test is to shoot a GAP10 50 10 groups of 5 rounds each. Then ream with a standard NATO chamber. Then redo the test, and see if accuracy drops in a significant way. I bet it will drop a little, but not much, as what matters most is runout between the bore and chamber.

Yeah I got in a huge pissing match with LMT over mentioning I used one box of reloads. They claimed it voids warranty. I said BS and barked quite loudly at them for even attempting to blame me for their bolt being machined improperly.

I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure Lowlight doesn't reload his ammo but uses Hornady and a few others.

Man, you pegged me... I decided not to report it because the POF was a 1/10th of a 1/10th better than the GAP so I scrapped the whole thing so I didn't make GAP look bad.

So now that my secret is out, I suppose someone else ( <span style="font-style: italic">read; objective </span>) will have to test this out as I have been exposed. Hope this means I don't have to send the company checks back to either POF or GAP.

Don't be so hard on him Frank. He has a new POF with 60-80 rounds through it. It's been fully tested and he knows what's best LOL

No, I have no more interest in entertaining this... it's six and one half. Besides, there are people who are in the know better than I , let them go out and buy their own rifles, I have mine.

I've been looking at getting a POF when someone pointed out the GAP. I'm trying to figure out where to hedge my money. I basically want a tactical/hunting .308 rifle.

I'm a neophyte and would really appreciate if someone could at least boil down the difference between DI and piston so I an understand that since noone seems to have a comparison otherwise between the rifle.

Absolutely! No army in the world would use direct impingement! And every hunter must have one too, especially if you often find yourself belly crawling through swampy conditions to stalk your prey.

I love my Gap10 but it just isn't set up to hunt with IMHO. I have never fired the POF. When I was considering an AR hunting rifle, I looked at this:

Depends on the hunting you do. If mainly from tree stands or blinds then you'll be fine but if hiking around I'd get a bolt gun in a different caliber as these 308 AR's are hefty in comparison with your typical hunting bolt rifle...

I decided on a POF for hunting/target shooting solely base on weight. The POF is listed as 9 lbs, and to me feels very svelte compared to an M1A scout squad. Everywhere I've looked the GAP-10's are reported weighing 13 lbs. The gas piston being easier to clean and run suppressed was a bonus, but not at all a deciding factor. Not sure if the GAP-10's with fluting bring the weight down, they're almost the same rifle, only thing I can figure is the GAP must have a heavier barrel. PRS stocks add some weight over the VLTOR E-mod, but surely the piston system in a POF weighs more than a DI, no?

Nine pounds must be a .223 with 14" barrel. Not comparable to the GAP. My 308 w/ 16.5" barrel is closer to 13.

I have a POF 308 16.5" with PRS stock and F1 that weighs in at 14.4lbs loaded. It may have been 9lbs before I added the stock, scope and ammo, but I think it warrants the better stock and a scope sufficient for 500 to 800yds.

Got my GAP-10 yesterday. 18" fluted with CTR, with my NF 5.5-22 it weighed 12 pounds on the bathroom scale. I'll weigh it again today with the 2.5-10 and see where that is since I will be using that scope for hunting anyway.

I have the 16.5 also and I think its like 8.2 or so withthe vltor coll. stock. I can't see where a PRS would add up to that much weight. 2lbs. for the scope and rings or so and maybe an extra pound for the magpul would put it around 11 or so empty?? Thats still alot less than the GAP if you are carrying it very far.

I to was hoping Frank would have done the comp. of the two rifles. While MOST here understand that even though one will edge out the other on accuracy, it is TOTALLY among these two rifles and that others may or may not shoot the same. Features, function, ergonomics and finish is also a huge part of a weapon and it would have been nice to see them compared.

Well if anyone here in southern CA has a GAP-10 I will bring my POF P308 to shoot along side it. Just to keep the thread going. Hell I will even bring an extra couple of boxes of ammo for the other rifle if there are any takers.

Basic rifle is 8.75
PRS stock is 0.825 more than the Emod
F1 with QD mount 2.625
V8 bipod 0.8
Monopod 0.46
Pmag with 10rds 0.9
TTL: 14.36lbs

I personally believe anything that GAP puts out will shoot better than the shooter. I do not own a GAP rifle, but wouldn't hesitate to send any rifle I do own to George and his crew for work. That being said, I do own a tight chambered bolt .308 and an Armalite AR10T, with it's 7.62 I'll swallow 'em all chamber. I'm cheap and shoot three shot groups, so below is the real difference between the two.
AR10T shooting 42.8 gr IMR 8208 XBR CI BR2 primers, 168 SMK to 2.812, aiming at the bullet hole to the right of the 3 shot group, measures .232 CTC.

Savage/Broughton 5C shooting the same ammo as above. The second channel on the Oehler was giving me fits, so the info is hand written in. That group is .156", so, the difference is .076" between bolt and auto. Buy whichever you like from GAP, and you won't be disappointed I'm sure. I got lucky with my rigs, no luck involved with GAP, just a credit card number.

I'm a douche. I just read the title of the post. Forget that I wrote any of this bolt vs. Gas thing.

However I will say I have found my POF to be extremely accurate. Other than the obvious Di vs Piston, both have excellent barrels which is key.

My POF has been used as a demo for some people and it has shot 3/8th inch groups with 168gr FGMM for them. My GAP is pretty much the same, although I have managed better groups when I am not distracted doing other things. It takes a bit more to shoot them both right 100% of the time, and I honestly hate shooting groups, but I suppose I can give it a try. </div></div>

The only part of this test that is of value to me, is the Consumer WINS!

Now all shooters can have quality semi-auto platforms in the configuration
that best suits your individual needs. My vote is for BOTH systems.
GA Precision is known for top quality, and accurate rifles. Now they offer a new semi-auto,
that is very accurate and in my opinion looks badass!

It will be interesting to me how many semi-auto's will be competing in sniper shoots as time goes on. I think we will see
more and more shooters testing their skills with semi-auto weapon systems. This by itself is exciting to me.

Thats a good honest opinion straight from the man.....I have a P308 and it shoots extremely well, but most important to me is that all the heat stays at the piston and she is very easy to clean. Either rifle anyone chooses will not disappoint.

My POF .308 should be here any day... I wish I could have both! Honestly, I'm willing to bet the difference between the two weapons is so small that the majority of us can't shoot well enough to tell the difference. Well, I can speak for myself at least. lol I'd have to agree with Frank, it's cool just seeing more semi-autos out there in use.
