GAP 300 WM build.

I am finalizing my build with GAP for a 300 WM.

This rifle would be used for long range large game hunting as well as well as general target shooting.

Here are the spec so far. I would appreciate some pro/cons to the build and any modifications that would be suggested.

REM 700 LA MAG action with Fluted Bartlein 24'' PSS/Varmit countor 11.25 twist. Stock is Manners MCS TA - 90% carbon fiber with spacer system. Badger thruster muzzle break an 20 MOA rail.

The main question I have with the carbon fiber stock. Will recoil be unbearable?

The recoil should be fine with the brake.

What trigger guard / Bottom Metal are you going with?

Unless your very recoil intolerant, the brake will make it very manageable even with the lighter weight.

If you're getting all that adjustable junk in the back then you're wasting your money on carbon fiber IMO. Take a look at the weight difference between the adjustable and non-adjustable stock, that is where weight savings are. If you get yourself a non adjustable stock, then opt for a carbon fiber to save on weight, as it will have a meaningful difference.

You can always raise your comb height with a Triad Tactical or Eagle stock pad, which have adjustable shims and provide a professional looking means to give you a natural sight picture with your scope. Also, the stock pack will cost you quite a bit less than getting all of that adjustable hardware put in the back, which I believe is only useful if the same rifle is going to be shared between multiple people.

A 1/10 twist barrel will give you better performance with heavy bullets, such as Hornady's 225 BTHP or SMKs 230gr MK.

I would go with the Badger FTE brake as well. I've used one with a 300 WM and a 300 WSM. Very effective, feels like a 243 win and you can see downrange impact with no problem.

Forget the 1-11 twist barrel , thats for 308 weight bullets , ie 175gr etc .

Go for a 1-10 so you can use the 208 , 210 , 220 & 225gr bullets

My 300 is a 10 twist Oby and FTE.I like it a lot but the Daughter thinks its hers.

Could also consider going with a 7 Rem Mag. That will cut down the recoil!

Any opinions on the Kampfeld Custom muzzle break versus the Badger? I was told to go w/ Kampfeld on a build I am having done presently. Any thoughts??? That would be my only seggestion and only based upon my builders suggestion.

I would lean towards a 1-10" twist instead of the 11.25, so you can shoot the heavies if you ever would want.

If I was lucky enough to have Karl doing a build for me, I would definitely have him install one of his brakes because he does such an incredible job. Since I already own a Badger FTE, it's easier for me to swap it between rifles. It's extremely effective and muscular looking, but some prefer a brake that looks more elegant. If you are having a hunting rifle built, I would go for a more traditional omnidirectional brake; if tactical, hard to beat the FTE.

I have a 1-8" twist Rock in my 300. I love it, I can run everything from 180, up to 240.
With that said, I would go with a 1-10" for sure.

Also, I run a McRees 3 port muzzle brake. I can shoot all day long, recoil is nothing.

put a brake on it. agree go with 1 in 10" twist to stabilize a the heavier bullets.

Not sure if it matters on a 300 WM as much as say a 308 but i don't generally care for brakes on hunting rifles if that is your intended use. I'd also go 1/10 twist for heavier (190-220 grain)bullets which is where the 300 WM really shines.
