My son Brad and I had the opportunity to go to the Roanoke Egg Shoot yesterday. After reading the rules we decided on going in the Hunter/Tac class which meant factory action aftermarket barrel, trigger, ect.
After we arrive and I find out my GAP 7 WSM AICS is in the OPEN division because it is on a custom (Badger) action, have you guys seen open BR rifles and rests? WOW! It looks like modern gunsmith technology meets the Circus. These are beautifully painted behemoths designed to put 6mm pills into extremely tight knots. Actions load from the left with a right bolt and rests run nearly the price of some scopes. You think AICS stocks are heavy, couldn’t guess what these weigh.
Course of fire was 2” squares @ 425”. 10 squares @ 425 with 15 rounds to knock them off the rail ( that will come up again later,) With any one cleaning all 10 in a shootout.
The shootout in open consisted of a large string of some of the prettiest painted and most complicated rests, along with Teflon sliders on stock bottoms ant some type of powder for lubrication, that this Va boy as ever witnessed. Oh and one old ugly butt beat up AICS stocked Laser that Moon from GAP put together in 7 WSM, And as a note a 7WSM with a thruster in a tin covered shooting shed will earn few friends in the BR Crowd.
I Held out through the shootout for 3rd place before I got eliminated but I thought it a good show for the GAP tac rifle in a field of Open BR Rifles, GOOD JOB MOON!
Next was my son Brads APA 308 experience. He proceeded to knock down all 10 in 11 rounds But…. One target was lying on its side ON the rail. With the remaining 4 rounds he had he was allowed to fire at the EDGE of the steel target……and e hit it on the last round!!!! But…. It spun and stayed on the rail!! 9/10 in his division with 11 hits on target. He missed the 3 gun shoot out in his division after hitting the remaining target 2 times with a 308 and it staying on the rail.
Overall there was a LOT of interest in the funny rifles and I think we garnered a lot of respect for the Builders of these weapons, to be able to walk into the BR type games and stand our ground.
Thank you GAP Moon and APA Dave for the quality provided both weapons hit 10 2x2s in 11 rounds.

I think the two nuts behind those rifles is why they did so good. we all know those guns can shoot but its who drives them is what counts. See you next week Jon

Sounds like a good time, maybe I will give it a try with my AI this summer!
