I own a GAP .308 bolt gun with all the add ons and goodies but was thinking about trading it off to purchase one of George's GAP10s can anybody help me decide to either keep the bolt gun or to go with the semi.

+1

I shoot my bolt guns way more than my ARs.

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

I own several of both from GAP. I may not own an GAP10 but do own Armalite AR10s and ar15s worked over by GAP, Kalifornia registered of course. The 2 types of rifles shoot very similar in terms of accuracy. However I'm with the people who posted before me, I shoot my bolts much much more that my semi auto's. I, personally, would just buy the GAP 10 and make your decision after owning both. You can't ever have too many GAP rifles. If you end up liking one over the other, the rifle will sell very quick for the price or near the price you paid for them.

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

Can you make legitimate use of an AR10? I bought a DPMS SASS a couple years ago and I just barely use it at all.

Any gun range I've been to only allows single loading.

My gun club only allows single loading.

Private (secure) land and tactical-type matches are the only places you can make use of that whole semi-auto feature.

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

It really just boils down to what you want, not what you need. I wouldn't trade my GAP10 for a bolt gun, any bolt gun. I like the SA platform better than bolts. With that said, I already have a .308 bolt by Clay Spencer and will probably have him build another out of a Rem 243 I have sitting in the safe.
I will also probably get the new upper for my GAP 10 when George gets the development finished.
Nothing wrong with having both, you can always sell, trade and buy daily to scratch the itch. It's just money

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

Not sure if you're planning to run a suppressor at some point, but they work better on bolt guns than semiautos. Quite a bit of noise comes back through the ejection port.

Have you considered consider putting together some kind of Mk 12 SPR in .223?

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

I've had both. I sold the GAP/Surgeon 308 and kept the GAP10. In 308 I'm not sure there's much the bolt gun will do that the semi won't. I've heard several stories of GAP10 owners that don't shoot their bolt guns much anymore. I'm headed down to Rifles Only for their Precision Semi Auto class, so plenty you can do with a semi auto if you wish.

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

I had the "I need a semiauto 308 disease" once too.

All I can say is, I got tired of chasing after my brass and the extra time in cleaning it. The semi auto is now gone and I still have my bolt gun.

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

Keep the bolt gun. I have a GAP Crusader and refuse to let it go. Believe me you will regret losing your GAP bolt rifle. KEEP IT and just sell some other guns, couple spare scopes, couple of organs and get yourself a gas gun as an extra. NOTHING will shoot better than you GAP bolt (unless its another GAP bolt action, lol).

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

Thanks guys for the insight. The gun is in fact threaded for a suppressor and I have a SWR can for it. Thing is I have owned the gun for some time and it just sits in my safe and remains unfired. I guess the reason for that is I can't seem to find the time do properly break in the barrel. I went all out when I had George build it and set it up right accessories included. If I were to sell the gun the only down side is that it is a left handed weapon. Do you guys think there is any demand for a left handed custom bolt gun from GAP.

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

What's it matter what gun you have if you don't shoot them anyway. Don't worry about break in. Shoot some, then pour some foam bore cleanerand run a few patches through and you will be good.

+1 on this...I could never sale the GAP bolt gun for a gas gun. I may have them both but I could never sale to get a Gas gun. If I truly needed it I would just have to save my pennies until I could afford both.

Re: GAP bolt gun or GAP10

Many people do, there's actually no need to buy a new one there's such good availability of used ones.
