Just picked up a 2013 gap Hospitaller 308, Surgeon actionwith 25 rounds down the barrel. The rifle has a Manners t4a stock with mini-chassis, does anyone know if GAP skim bedded the mini-chassis Rifles?

Thanks

Easy to do just make sure you torque the action screws when you install it back in the stock. Look at the rear tang of the action or under the barrel shank, you should be able to tell if its bedded w/o pulling the BA

I looked between the barrel and the stock at the front of the action and there appears to be a black putty of some sort that I can see. I’m sure it’s been skim bedded now. I’m going to pull the stock and send it to custom gun coating for a gap Camo coating. The screws torque to 65 in/lbs correct?

Pretty sure they do skim bed the mini chassis. Likely action and first inch or so of barrel. That’s where it would be easy to spot without pulling the action is first inch of barrel. They use marine Tex according to their website which would look like the black putty you seen

All the ones coming into the shop for rework/rebarrels have been skim bedded. You will likely also find that they bedded an inch or so in front of the recoil lug as barrel support.

Not saying that all of them are like that but I have not seen otherwise yet.

Its glass bedded than. Most recommend 65 in lbs but than i came across a post from Manner suggesting 7.3 NM on the front screw and 5.1 NM at the rear for their mini chassis. Tighten the front first than the rear it allows the rear tang to float. It worked for me w my manners.

Response from GAP.

During that time period, the barreled actions were lug bed in the mini-chassis' but it only included a small amount of Marine-Tex in the lug mortise area to fill in the open area around the lug and ensure a repeatable fit when removing and re-installing the barreld action.

So it’s been bedded some, maybe not a full skim bed.
