GAP Remington 700 .300 wm

I'm trying to find a Factory ammo load that will shoot out of my GAP Remington 700 .300 Win Mag 24" Bartlein MTU barrel. I've tried ABM 185 Jug OTM that shoots really good, but it absolutely hated Hornady 195 BTHP Match, Hornady 200 ELD-X was horrible. I have some Black Hills 190 SMK coming tomorrow and would guess FGMM 190SMK is pretty close to the Black Hills. I'm currently not reloading but have started collecting equipment to start.

I did not have any custom specification on how this rifle was chambered so I'm guessing they just used a SAAMI spec chamber. Anyone have GAP rifle in .300WM can give me any advice on a load/brand that shoots nice?

Did you get it directly from them or buy from someone?

you should call them and ask if it was chambered and throated for anything in particular

Yes I got it directly from GA, but without getting into it about GA, if I never have to deal with them again I would be happy. They built the barreled action and chambered it. Jon at 419 finished it.

That's strange. My 300wm from LRI shoots the 200 eld-x ridiculously. I'd be curious to see what the black hills and FGMM do as they tend to be a good measuring stick.

my first rem sendaro 300wm best group with factory ammo was probably 2.5in at 100yds. tried all kinds of ammo. realizing it wasnt the ammo i decided to adjust the seating depth on the factory ammo and groups shrank to 1in. Yup she was a deep throated gal and factory ammo was jumping about .170 i set them to .030 and world of difference. i started loading my own after that

I'll post it up tomorrow when I shoot those Black Hills. When I went to sight this rifle in I used the ABM 185 Jug OTM tactical which shot really well. I also had a box ABM 230 which I knew would probably not shoot to well because my barrel is a 1:10, and that was indeed was the case. They did not work at all. Figured no big deal just stay below 230grain and I'd be ok. I was really surprised both those Hornady loads did not group at all. Since the 185 jug shot good I thought maybe the Black Hills or Fed GMM 190 SMK since it is a very common load maybe they would of chambered my rifle to accommodate this load. The 185 Jug and the 190 SMK bullets are the same length at 1.353. Although the ABM 185 are loaded slightly longer than SAAMI spec. I know there all kinds of other things also i.e., ogive, seating depth all that to take in account for also.

I have to say that I guess I've been lucky, my 6.5 Creedmoor shoots everything I've tried in it. I know this can be worked out by hand loading, but it would be nice to find a couple of different factory loads that would work

I've had good luck with the Black Hills in my win mags, I think you'll be happy with them and they're relatively inexpensive to boot.

Shot the Black Hills today and they did ok, nothing spectacular. Broke an edge of the friggen extractor. It's still functional. PTG bolt with 60 rounds and the extractor breaks. And PTG doesn't even stock them. You have to order it. I found one at Midway for freeking $50. I worked out a couple other bugs fine tuning the set-up (moved the scope back a slot) and hope to do better next time.

I contacted PTG but have not heard back. Can anyone confirm if this extractor supposed to have the edge beveled like this?

I thought it was broke, but on closer inspection it looks to be ground down. Anyone?

I am kind of confused about this. The replacement I received from Midway today didn't fit. It was too wide, which confuses me because I ordered the extractor for the magnum bolt face. Could this bolt GAP used be a non-magnum long action bolt. I don't know the diameter difference between a 30-06'/.270 and a .300WM

Looks like it to me. I bet its to keep your brass from hitting your windage turret. LOL PTG customer service, call back, good one. You mean the owner himself didn't answer and offer to hand wash your underwear?

The 300wm is a .532 case head and the 30-06 is a .473.

Ok, thank you for the feedback. I bet you're right with it being a cut for the brass. I looked at my 6.5CM built by Jon at 419 and it has the same cut. Well, I have a spare then. I guess I shouldn't hold my breath on getting a call back. I cringe when having to deal with PTG again. I ordered a bottom metal once from them. I actually called to confirm they had it in stock, they said that it was, so I bought it. After awhile when it didn't show up I called again and was told it was back ordered. So, I cancelled the order and they tried to charge me a cancellation fee. I couldn't believe it. They finally let me off the hook after arguing about it.

On the bolt face thing. I wonder if it's an older model or something before they made a magnum version?

You need to know what its chambered for. The 300wm GAP built me would shoot my hand loads under .50 moa at 600 yards but mine was chambered for military 220 grain load because that is what I asked for

you really need to hand load to get everything out of a a 300wm

The angle on the extractor uses the rim of the cartridge to push the exactor out so the entire rim can be inside the bolt face with the extractor snapping over and grasping the rim.

There are two widths of M-16 extractors:

Mini-M16 (narrow)

Standard M-16 (wide)

GAP and many other manufacturers like Defiance, use the mini-M-16 extractor, accounting for why the standard M-16 you ordered from Midway was too wide.Had you called Mark at GA Precision, he could have:

Explained that your picture shows a proper angle on the face of the extractor.

Sent the proper replacement out if you felt at that point that you still needed one.

ETA: Is there a reason why they don't come from the factory with the edge ground down? Is it done differently for different cartridges?

I am very happy with the final out come of this rifle. I will swallow my pride and thank GAP for a really great job. It may be just the person I dealt with for this build that left a negative impression on me. I'm a beginner to bolt actions, not an idiot. I've had a few minor items that GAP did a great job on. They built me the best shooting AR15 upper I own, and this was right after obama got elected with absolutely no parts available anywhere. Yes, I am very happy with this rifle and GA precision. This is the most accurate rifle I've ever shot.

Wow! That's awesome! I just shot my 6.5 Creedmoor today with the new Hornady 147gr ELDM it shot lights out also. Very happy with it
