Garmin hacked

As of last evening, nothing had synced from my watch or Edge. This AM my ride from last Thursday showed up in Connect and Strava, but nothing since (rode all three days). I was able to access Connect IQ, but couldn't make any changes.

So your watch can't talk to your phone without going through someone's backend servers..............
When a simple wifi / network / BT connection to sync the data would be super easy.......

No. Both watch and Edge connect to phone and work as normal. Activities recorded do not upload to Garmin. I can still do everything I usually do, I just can't logon to Garmin to view any rides. I can still view history in the devices.

Remember in the "Old Days", when your watch talked to your phone with a simple interface called - you?

Your watch told you it was 7:00 PM.

You told your phone to dial your house.

You used the phone to tell your wife you would be a little late for supper.

Now days we can blame other things - but your wife is still upset you are late for supper. The really funny part is your watch nor your phone cares that your wife is upset. :ROFLMAO:

Returned from a ride a couple hours ago and it synced almost immediately. Checked a few minutes ago and everything from last week through the weekend was uploaded. Connect IQ page loads, but not responding.

Fortunately, my watch has an ETA movement, a winding stem and I can still read a map.

How many people can follow a map and compass any more? Or have a road atlas in their car?

How many of our vehicles are hooked into 'OnStar' or similar that lets someone at a console turn the car off at the flick of a switch. Anywhere?

How about the money you have in the bank or your line of credit on your visa. That money is just an electron away from vaporizing forever. Or if someone doesn't want you to access it... boom, gone.

How many have phone numbers of their friends, family and contacts still written in a little phone book... not saved on a smartphone? What happens if someone decides to shut the phone down? Like in an office at Google or Apple? Do you even remember more than 3 phone numbers by heart any more? Do you still have a Yellow Pages or even a local phone book in your house? Or a land line?

Lots of things that we take for granted these days could go away at the flip of a switch. Your power. Your Internet. Your TV. Your ballistics calculator.

How many can still function in a completely analog world? Who still has a car, truck or Jeep with a carb and points?

Just some questions that may be worth asking in the future.

My watch not talking to my phone is small potatoes compared to what hackers or, worse, woke employees at Google could do to most any of us. In an instant. Remember, the ANTIFA in the street are the ones we see. Big Tech is riddled with their soulmates. Just waiting to unleash their computer skills on you. And do things that you agreed to let them do... which you don't know you agreed to... but you did when you didn't read 90 pages of text before clicking "I Agree" to the terms of service on your phone, your car, your watch, your TV... you name it.

Brave new world, indeed!!!

I had to use a physical USB cable to recover one of my rides from this weekend. It was a real hardship.

Garmin's hardware has generally been solid (well, except the Vector 3 pedals  ), but their software is kinda shitty. I love seeing a message like "updating GPS firmware" in the middle of a ride, having the unit randomly lock up while recording an activity, or having to cycle Bluetooth on and off repeatedly to get the unit to sync with my phone. So I can't say I'm surprised they got hacked.
