Suppressors Gas in face with can installed!!!! ugghhh help

Re: Gas in face with can installed!!!! ugghhh help

So the RTV fix is just for the charging handle? How does that stop of the excess gas from gumming up your BCG?

Before I put in my Paladin Switch block, my rifle would get so freaking overgassed that it would permanently jam on the 25th round when shooting with my suppressor. Meanwhile the rounds between the 15th and 25th would have a rapidly decreasing POI. This is starting from a compeletely clean and lubricated BCG.

I can see how an adjustable gas block or upper can reduce the gas hitting your BCG but how does the RTV fix deal with that? You don't actually pour it on your bolt carrier key, do you?

The only thing RTV is going to "fix" is keeping excess from leaking out from under your charge handle...directly into your face. BUT, if you don't have another port for the gas to escape from...your basically trapping it all inside your receiver and that's only going to make your specific problem worse. (unless you have the adjustable gas block and/or the style of port thats on a GasBuster Charge Handle.)

IMO, the RTV is only going to help if used WITH a GasBuster or some home made version that redirects excess gas outside your receiver.
In all honesty though...the adjustable gas block should be enough to handle the problem. If you still have gas in your face, then you can progress to the additional means of prevention.

fumes/smoke is horrific!!! blowback and small bits of unburnt powder hitting me in the face as well.

so i figure I will replace the standard gas block with an adjustable block and maybe replace the AR15 carrier with a M16 carrier.
Any thoughts? which block? I am leaning towards a PRI adjustable? would a pinned switchblock be preferable, I really dont want to have to pull the rifle apart and send it in.....

thanks in advance </div></div>

OP stated he is already running a PRI gas buster... On another note... If your AR can't sustain fire for more then 25 rounds suppressed I'd be pretty curious as to why. Our GI colts would get dirty but they'd still run with a few hundred down the tube. Not saying I don't believe you... Just seems like your weapon set up is pretty unreliable.

Re: Gas in face with can installed!!!! ugghhh help

DDS didn't say that. I did.

My AR is made from custom CNC'd billet upper with a DPMS nitrided BCG. I think the reason why mine fails after 25 rounds could be due to the much tighter tolerance of my upper.

When the BCG gets dirty, friction between it and the inside of the upper increases to the point where the BCG can no longer slide.

I would imagine the GI Colts aren't cut to the same tight tolerance as my custom rifle since the military tends to have slightly looser specs in order to increase reliability at the expense of accuracy.

Anyway, after installing the Paladin Switch block, my rifle shoots suppressed fine when set to the high pressure setting. Less gas gets blown into my rifle's chamber so it doesn't gum up to the point of failure anymore.

Re: Gas in face with can installed!!!! ugghhh help

FWIW, I use PWS long piston ARs with good results. Less gas gets to your face because it is vented under the handguard, just aft the gas block. Even full auto, the gas isn't bad, especially compared to a similar length barrel and same caliber.

Re: Gas in face with can installed!!!! ugghhh help

I'd say adjustable gas block and RTV is the way to go. I built mine with an adjustable gas block for this reason, but I had not heard about the RTV trick before. I still get a little unpleasant blowback, so i'm going to try it.

Re: Gas in face with can installed!!!! ugghhh help

So I recently fooled with the same issue. I tried various methods mentioned here, but just happened into a really great deal on a cmmg piston conversion kit. I was amazed at the difference between the gas and piston systems when it came to blowback. It is a $225 option, but i have to say im pleased with the results. It will be a few more months till I can try it full auto & suppressed, but semi is worlds better. If it were me, i would do it again. my $0.02.

If you are wrong-handed, its gonna shoot that gas into your grill. There is a "port" milled into the bottom of the right side of the charging handle.
