Gunsmithing Gas Piston System Conversions

Re: Gas Piston System Conversions

I don't know if anyone's making a 308 conversion yet. A friend of mine who does tactical training for the military has one on his AR and swears by it. He said he's put 2500 rounds through it the last time I talked to him and that the receiver was still really clean. I plan on getting the AA piston conversion when I get back stateside.

I have heard mention of increased muzzle velocity with a piston system. Not sure if/how that could be true, or how much it would amount to. Have you done any chrono work to show either way?

Re: Gas Piston System Conversions

As an alternative, you may want to consider PWS (Primary Weapons Systems) conversion.

I had one installed on a DPMS 14.5" upper for about $350.00.
I have put about 1,500 rounds through it under both dusty and wet conditions and it is virtually unstoppable.
(Caveat: It didn't like frangible ammo for some reason).
PWS doesn't sell the conversion directly to the public so one of their dealers will have to install it for you.
It is a desirable alternative to a much heavier P.O.F. upper.
