Suppressors Gasbuster charging handle??

I just submitted my paperwork for a suppressor for my AR. since i will have a few months before i can pick it up, i was wondering if it would be worth it to go ahead and pick up a gas buster charging handle? basically, what i am asking, is it pretty standard to get the gas blow back when using a suppressor on a gas system? also, would a adjustable gas block be a good investment to get the most out of a suppressor? or would yall just let it ride and see how it performs before making any further purchases? thanks

I have a gas buster for my suppressed M16. It wasn't cheap and quite frankly, I think it was a waste of money. Others may swear by them, but I haven't noticed much if any advantage. I don't notice any excessive gas back in my face, and that's with 14.5" and 10" barrels.

I'd say wait until you see how your system performs before making any purchase.

I think the Gasbuster makes a noticable difference, however the Gasbusters have a tendency to break.

The gas buster charging handles are nice but unless you are running an sbr they are not always necessary. The adjustable gas blocks are nice and keep the gun from beating itself up from all the extra gas caused by the suppressor.

Noveske "Switch block" is a very worthy investment !!

I did see a little difference with the gas buster but wouldn't say it's worth the cost on my 10.5" upper

I run the PRI's on all my AR's (because all of em are suppressed) its gets spendy when they are 90.00 a pop, the over sized latch is great in the cold and with an optic set back, and it "does" help divert the blowback when running cans.

This is the simplest, most effective, and cheapest solution.

I've seen a mod available that replaces the forward assist w/ a gas port. It looks just like a fwd assist, but will not function as one. A bit gimmicky, but who knows.

i wanted some input due to the fact they were so expensive..its a 30cal suppressor for my 223 so maybe the built up gas wont be quite so bad..and I have a prs stock so my face will be a little farther back compared to a collapsed stock.. im not sure what angle the gas shoots back so hopefully with the my face placed further back will help. a little more input with the adjustable gas block would be great.. could it potentially help the blow back problem? or help with sound suppression? thanks

I looked into this while waiting on my form 4. Now that I have the Treck-T I found I dont need one at all. I get no extra gas to the face with my 11.5" barrel.

thanks, I will be able to shoot the rifle with the suppressor at my local ffl range well before the paperwork comes back.. i'll see how that goes then make a decision.

The adjustable gas block usually has two different settings. The unsuppressed allows you to fire the gun as normal and how the rifle was designed. The suppressed setting is designed to restrict some of the gas going back through the gas tube. What happens is when you run a suppressor on a AR you are getting extra gas going through the gas tube system. This increases in fouling, it causes your cyclic rate to go up sometimes extremely high and just causes a lot of wear and tear on your gun. I have seen certain suppressors cause the cyclic rate to go up by as much as 250 more rounds per minute in the same host weapon. That is a lot of wear and tear and an adjustable gas block will definitely cut down on some of that.

On ar-15's with 16 inch or longer barrels I usually don't have a problem with gas bleeding in my face but short barrels that are over gassed it will be a problem. Also if you are a lefty it will be much worse because of where the gas is bleeding off.

I run PRI charging handles on the majority of my ar's both ar-10 type rifles and ar-15. I have broken one but it was a roll pin that broke and pretty easy to fix. The one that broke is the gun that I shoot probably the most and last year alone probably put close to 10K rounds through it and the majority of that was suppressed.

I would shoot the rifle first see what it does and go from there. Hope this helps.

I went with adjustable gas blocks on a couple of AR's. I think it was a waste of money. Once I shot it 50 times or so, the adjustment was all carboned up the adjustment screw wouldnt turn anymore. Only way to fix it was take the gas block off and clean it. I wasnt about to do that every time I shot it. My 308 AR was wrecking itself with all the pressure. The bolt was slamming on the receiver. I talked to Clint at Slash's heavy buffers. He has the same feelings. I put a regular gas block and regular charging handle with a heavy buffer and spring and fixed the issue with the bolt. I still get a little gas leaking in my face due to the can but its not bad and its not wrecking my gun. Ive not tried the RTV fix yet but may give it a try.

FWIW,

The new Gas Busters replaced the roll pins with solid ones.
Since then, they do not break.

With a 20" barrel, the gas will not be as bad as a shorter barrel, but it still will be a PITA.
Gas Busters are worth the money IMO.
Getting a Noveske switch block will make a huge difference though.

I run BCM gunfighter charging handles on my 556 SBR, 556 16", 556 22", and 18" .308. I think the design that closes off the back of the charging handle where the latch typically moves may help some too.

My 16" 556 gun is the LaRue OBR....so it has an adjustible gas block with a suppressed setting and that seems to help.

My 12.7" 556 SBR is a LWRC M6A3....adjustable gas block. I think its more for the abuse on the system than gas in face, but it is my most pleasant to shoot suppressed.

My 22" AR is a mut of parts I put together...it has a standard lo-pro gas block and rifle length gas system. It got the BCM so it wouldnt be jealous of its peers. Its almost as pleasant to shoot suppressed as the LWRC with its long gas system.

My 18" CMMG .308 is about like the 22" 556 AR when it comes to comfort. I only really notice gas in the face during prolonged rapid shooting.....and shooting Federal GMM...thats just not gonna happen at 90 cents per round!


I would personally pass on the PRI.

I don't see how a Gas Buster can be worth $90. What is different besides the exit port that flares off to the side?

I sat down with a dremel and modified my own in about 15 minutes.
If there is another difference, I don't know what it is.
For the price of a $4.00 dremel bit (that I already had) I've got a functional charge handle that sends excess gas out the side of the rifle. Mine exits the right side, which is actually farther away from my face since I rest my face on the left side of the stock.

hopefully between now and when my paperwork comes back, I will be able to have access to an AR with the gasbuster charging handle.. I am a college student, and this rifle was supposed to be a budget build that has since gotten a bit out of control with the purchase of the suppressor.. i just cant justify the extra $90 until I can really see the results with/without the gasbuster handle. anyone in south Georgia with this setup?

What barrel are you using? Some barrels are over gassed and some are not. I shot a friends 10.5 and it about choked me to death. He thought it was normal. If its bad with your set up, your gun is probably over gassed. But I expect you will have no problems. Who makes the barrel?

i tried one of the the gasbusters out on a rifle that was overgassed and it didnt really help.

i did the RTV and that took away most of it. i used the gray/black stuff so its a little less obvious. no issues so far, i just made sure to degrease with alcohol before applying.

to get rid of the rest of the gas, i put one of these on

they work really well and i have them on the rest of the ar's that i have.

Sorry bout that, kinda forgot.
Sent about 60 rounds down range today with my new TBAC 30BA on a .243WSSM with no adjustable gas block...so as you can see, there is plenty of "shit" coming back into my action; but with all the crap on my charge handle, there isn't any underneath squeaking by into my face. What is coming out...is coming out the side where it's suppose to.
It's a little crude but now that I know what I'm doing, I would have no problem doing it again. Even with this mod, I'll still be looking to add an adjustable gas block to the mix to tame the cycling. It's quite obvious that it's pounding away on the carrier and buffer.

100% functional and it's just a DIY job.

I've got a new gasbuster and can confirm this.

It works for me but I don't know how much gas came out before I got it, as I never shot it unsuppressed without it.

Started with a small carbide bit with a round end ( LIKE THIS ) to make a "pilot trench" and then switched to letter "A" (store didn't have letter "B" in stock) in the picture but if I do it again, I would just skip the carbide cutter and use letter "B" in the picture. The aluminum is soft enough that the carbide cutter isn't necessary.

i have a gasbuster and although it's not great, it's a lot better than a regular charging handle. i will be trying the RTV trick next along with drilling a tiny hole in a BCM Gunfighter and see how that goes. if that doesn't work, i want to try that AR Gas Vent b/c i don't use the forward assist anyway. there is A LOT of blowback in my 9mm AR.

Id like to try one to see how much of a difference they make, gas doesnt bother me anymore when I shoot suppressed unless Im really winded and breathing through my mouth, but my eye pro does end up catching a lot of oil.
