Gear for Rimfire / Recommedations

Guys I'm new to this Rimfire Section but it has really peaked my interest. Please be tolerant of my general questions. I shoot center fire alot with a a couple bolt guns and the idea of a trainer that I can shoot at 100 to 200 sounds great since it's a long ways to the closest 1000 yd range.

I think I have all I need to get started. I have an Anschutz 1517 with 25" Hvy bbl in 17 HMR with a Leupold FXIII 12x w/AO and a fine duplex. The reticle is not perfect but I have target knobs w/ 1/4 MOA adjustments... hold overs would be a problem. Any scope recommnedations for an up grade? I like MOA/MOA vs MIL/MIL.

22lr interests me alot... I might want to go that way. The customized hvy bbl 10/22's look fun and easy to build. But are they accurate enough to be competitive with a bolt gun?

Double, what do you use on your cf rifles? I would try to match those. This is not the only way but I'm going to run a nf f1 on mine to duplicate what I use on the cf rifles. Your anschutz will work just fine for a trainer. Shooting 25 bucks per hundred isn't so bad.

I shoot long range clays and steel, some matches and some tactical matches. Mostly shoot S&B and NF on these rifles. Really was not wanting to spend that much $$ on a trainer. Hoping to get some expericenced advise on other MOA/MOA scopes... I do see your point about using the same scope as your CF.

Double, this is just my thoughts on a trainer. Another possibility is pull one of the scopes off of your cf rifles. It seemed to me site picture would also be practiced while trigger practice was accomplished.

Find a scope with a similar reticle. If you had a similar mount, you could move one scope around. You would be able to count and document your clicks after making the change.

My wife has a 10/22 with an Adams and Bennett barrel in a Fajen stock, and it will shoot well under MOA. They do get poo-poo'd, but they can be very accurate. It takes some money, but it can be done. Just to give you an idea, she has about $600 stuck into her 10/22.

I have a CZ 455 American that will do just as well, if not better, but again, it is modified. I installed pillars and did some bolt work. Both guns are capable of shooting one hole at 50 yards, and these rifles have proved it with 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards.

Pick a good solid rifle and improve a few parts. Now put a good scope on it and have fun. A good trainer is not cheap.

I have the 12x also. Mounted on a 20moa rail. Its on a Savage MK II. 22LR. I like this set up a lot. I have not used it to 200 though. 100yds right now.
This scope does not have a ton of elevation hence the 20moa rail. Clear as can be though and I like the fine duplex.
I think it will be good to 200 and may have that oppertunity Sunday, after a two gun match.
Will try to get back about that.

I use about half the mag on my trainer.

With a 22 your shots will be much closer than a centerfire. This way your targets at 200 with rimfire may appear the same size through your centerfire at 4-500.
