What is this big honkin' frame that this gentleman has strapped around his spotting scope? The instructor at my precision rifle class had one, and I'm curious as to who makes it. Also, how many of my kidneys must I sell to get something this cool? Does it make the scope go faster?

Re: Gear Q

It's from the LaRue Tactical SPOTR kit, I'm not sure how many kidneys you'd have to sell but I'm sure LaRue will tell you. I'm pretty sure LaRue put the kit together for the USMC SSOT solicitation back in 2008. Part of the requirement was the ability to mount IR pointers, NV, and other devices to aid in spotting in all weather conditions.

Re: Gear Q

There are video leads to the eyepiece, a milling reticule, nice padded cover, manfrotto tripod and a couple other do dads they don't give away. Likely around 5 kidneys.

Re: Gear Q

Cadex will sell you their surveillance kit for the spotter if you wanted the attachment points and the cage.

Ashbury has a spotter accessory adaptor, and I believe Spuhr is working on one or two options.

The cool kids actually just use a Spotter 60 and skip the cage. It has rails already built into the spotter.

Re: Gear Q

I looked it up, only $3K. If only there were some gullible, healthy unwashed masses around for me to get extra kidneys from.

Oh well, it's not like I could justify any of that gear, considering the only regular range I have access to tops out at 200 yards. Thanks for the answers though.

What I'd really love though, is a decent mount to stick an iPod/iPhone camera onto a scope (rifle and/or spotting). I've seen two, but they were pretty big and bulky.

The kit is absolutely awesome. Anyone interested in one of these please contact me direct and I can work up a price based upon options that you choose.
