Stoeger Condor 12 with Carlson extended chokes loaded with 3" Hevi-Metal 1 1/4 oz. #3 shot

We pass shot at maybe 17-20 yards distance first 2 dropped like rocks.. then the gaggle(15) looped around for another pass, just enough time to break open and reload, I must admit it mighty nice of them, so we got 1 more..

Question,...has anybody ever had geese do this? a return flyby ? usually they keep flying when shot at,... AWAY from you...

Re: Geese

Good shootin John. The reason they did another fly-by is that they were probably a resident flock. The resident birds around here are dumb as hell. I've seen em get shot at and come back 3 or 4 times. The birds that come in from up north are pretty smart cookies tho and usually won't even get low enough to shoot at.

Re: Geese

I'm guessing resident geese with lots of young of the year birds in there. We have an early season here and we've had flocks of geese come in where you drop a few and the rest will just land with the ones that were killed without even flaring away. Have had the geese come into the decoys twice numerous times but mainly early in the year, very seldom once they've been educated alittle bit.

Re: Geese

I've had it happen before. My take on it was because geese mate for life, I just shot a couple of their mates and they came back wondering where the hell their man/woman went. That was just my guess at the time.

Re: Geese

That's pretty typical for geese to turn back around. It just takes one dumb leader to lead 'em all back around for a second, or even third, pass. That's why when we're done shooting in our blind we'll usually sit tight and keep lightly calling, maybe a hail call if they're on their way away. But the last thing you want to do is call in desperation when they are already coming back around (nerves do that to you).

Good huntin.

Re: Geese

Season ended today,.. now it is squirrels, rabbits and crows then April when Spring Turkey comes in..

my 2 I breasted out and got about 6 Lbs. of good meat now to decide how to cook em..

No guides, just 2 local guys who got lucky and had a flyover...

Goose, is nasty as all hell. I give all mine to the local raptor program. This season was wicked bad though.

You're doing it wrong.
Treat goose the same way you would venison. I like to chop it up like ground beef and use it in chili or spaghetti sauce.
Equally good are goose poppers.
Cut the meat into 2" cubes, wrap with bacon. Add a slice of jalapeno if you like spicy.
Grill over indirect heat using a sheet of foil on the grill rack. Cook until the bacon is done, then slather on your favorite BBQ sauce and cook for a few minutes more.
EAT!

Yes, geese are generally easily tricked into coming back around for another pass.
This time of year, they're beginning to pair up for mating season, so they are more gregarious and vulnerable.

Re: Geese

Goose is frigging great!!! You need to remove all the silver skin, then marinate it (OJ/terriki mix. Quater the breast, wrap with bacon after inserting a piece of pepper jack cheese and onion. Grill till about med rare-med. Better than most venison...
