Rifle Scopes Geissele Mounts: Impressions and Thoughts

I do like Badger and have one of their unimounts but cannot find a 34mm 20MOA for the life of me. I am also on a bit of a timeline so the C1 is not an option since they aren't projected until end of March or April. No experience with NF mounts however they are about $100 less than geissele.
They are fantastic. Yes, it seems crazy until you buy one and then you know. They can be found pretty easily in LNIB condition in the $250 range.

Awesome. I have Schmidt 5-25 PM2 that needs a good mount to go on my 6.5 AR10 so based on all this I'll pick one up. Can't wait to get hands on!
Mine arrived today and just waiting for some white space to get it mounted. So far I am very impressed.
I have one on my custom 308. I used to have a SPUHR but I had problems with the scope caps cracking after a few years of use. So far the Giesselle does as advertised. I dont know if its worth the money vs the other mentioned brands. But I liked it so I bought it lol.
I have them on 2 rifles. Happen to catch them on a 20% off sale last fall directly from Geissele.
But, it's not like I bought and tried all the other brands to determine a difference.

Yeah I was eying one and kept saying maybe later so ended up paying full price. But so far I like what I am seeing. Figure with a Schmidt PM2, no place to skimp on the mount.
I really like that Geissele mounts have inert lugs on the bottom of their rails to interface with your picatinny rail. overkill? probably, but there isn't anything wrong with overkill. for a non-qd AR mount you'll be hard pressed to find better...
I believe all nightforce mounts have a 20 moa cant, which may or may not work for your application. although I'm sure it was a fluke, I actually had a nightforce unimount break on me. their CS is great though.

I can’t begin to get where you think the quality to cost is out of line.
You know these start as a block of billet aluminum, and everything that isn’t the mount is taken off right? For the price, I think they’re a fantastic option.
I use Spuhr on my competition rifles. Now those are expensive. Geiselle....fantastic option.
I agree, the quality of these mounts are superior. The machining quality is fantastic.
Geissele also has excellent customer service. I had to try a few mount lengths before finding the one that worked, and they were very easy to deal with.

...how do any unimounts start? Forgings? Castings? Pretty sure they ALL start as "blocks".
The machine work just isn't that clean compared to a Badger, Leupold, Nightforce, or even the one MI mount product I had. Since they all perform, functionally, the same roughly, in my experience, I'm just going by price, and workmanship. They have the most tool marks, and roughest ring ID's of any mount I've used, consistently. They do work, sure, but they don't bring anything special to the table, so I can't really "vote" for 'em.
Geissele does have great CS.
I had one, sold it and used the money to buy a badger and an AD QD mount. I've never had any issues with Badger, NF, or even AD mounts. I've dropped my rifle and knocked it over on concrete with no POI shift at all with any of the mentioned mounts. I removed the AD mount and put it back on several times, POI never moves more than .5 MOA from center. Never had any of them come lose either. Just a tiny bit of blue Loctite and proper torque, they don't fail.
With that, I think the Geissele is solid, but overpriced. It does what it's supposed to, but so do other mounts at half the cost. As much as I love Geissele, I think a lot of the product cost is R&D.

I have to respect your opinion. You have your reasons, you laid them out better than most people do. Many folks get defensive and say “because.”
I can see your side. I like them, and think that for under Spuhr level they are very solid. If I could have everything in Spuhr mounts I would, but that’s ANOTHER &400-$500 PER piece of glass. Geiselle at sub $300 is easier to swallow.

Let me start off by saying I love some of Gs products. Been shooting his triggers since his only product was the hi speed back in early 00s. I think he makes the best rails on the market hands down with a superior barrel nut and alignment system.
However his mounts are nothing special. In fact they like Spuhr are a solution looking for a problem. If I want qd then I’m going with bobro as they are the best design out there backed up with the smallest shift confirmed by dod testing. If I am going non qd then I’m going with badger or NF unimount. Both are proven beyond reproach.
Now if we could somehow get ted @ ARC to collaborate with Andrew @ bobro we could have the best qd system coupled with the best rings on the market. That would be worth paying a premium for.

Geissle and Larue mounts are True M1913 picatinny. 4 point of contact.
Badger and NF are STANAG/NATO spec which is 3 Points of contact ( But the third contact point is larger surface area)
There is a very big debate even within the DOD especially within SOF which is superior and from the recent contracts looks as if Geissle and Larue are winning.
I use all of the above and equally content with either.

Interesting that you say that while I have PERSONALLY had two Bobros break on me. My own, not “I heard”, or “a buddy”, my personal Bobros broke.
One was where I looked down one day and several of the studs used to hold the nuts on were snapped off. Like the caps were still on, but 2 or 3 of the studs were snapped. The mount had been on a while, so it did not happen when I was putting the scope on. I use torque wrenches on EVERY SINGLE part of the scope mounting process. I am an Armorer, and I’m mounting scopes that go to work everyday in LEO kits. I take that VERY seriously. I couldn’t imagine if a scope I put on went down on an Officer and caused him to miss a shot due to something I did. I do not “guess” on torque or scope mounting. I also shoot NRL matches, so my scopes are super valuable to me.
The second Bobro that broke was when the gun fell out of a car. The gun was unloaded, and it was simply an accident, no one was in any danger, but the gun landed on the scope cap. Scope was fine, mount toast. Broke at the bottom where the QD attaches to the rail.
So, I’m a no go on Bobro. I know MANY folks like them, and I did too. Having TWO go down on me is enough to say “maybe they aren’t for me.”
I don’t run them down to folks, I see guys using them with success, but for me, I do not think Spuhr or Geiselle is a solution looking for a problem. To me, for MY uses, they are ROCK SOLID, and work without fail.
I really like Geissele AR triggers and own several. But, a scope ring just needs to hold the scope securely to the rifle. A cheap leupold dovetail mount and ring will do that. While I have no doubt they are well built and do their job exceedingly well, I agree they are an answer in search of a question. Too expensive for the job they accomplish.
For every mount system you will hear people complain about something breaking: Larue, ADM, MI, ARMS, GDI, ERTAC, ect.
You are 2 of the 5 examples i have EVER heard of for what its worth of them breaking, and 1 is due to neglegence that any product could fail on. . Shit breaks but these have been run through Mil STD 810, passed and the proceeded to smash every single mounts RTZ in the testing. Granted this was ~5ish years ago and there is some newer shit on the market now, but I carried Larue, ADM and ARMS into combat and am still here today. I would trust my life to bobro before ANY other QD system for perspective.
The added benefit is zero adjust and fiting onto out of spec rails which is pretty common on alot of platforms.
Sounds like you just hit the unlucky lottery. I have run these on SCAR17's and light weight 300 Win Mags and if that wont shear the lugs, I don't know what will. Perhaps the rail was so out of spec the mount couldnt get a good puchase causing undue stress to the lugs?
I would call andrew and let him know, he is a super nice guy and would make it right,.

Interested to see or hear this debate. SOF is able to T&E many different units and provide suggestions. This however means very little to the actual person utilizing them downrange. Procurement process is a completely different animal when we are talking contracts, not one-off or sole source. I've been issued and utilized a number of different mounts throughout the years. Larue has been a predominant source because they could meet a specific guidelines made for large production at a cost that was acceptable. I personally have had many issues with Larue mounts, as with others. Personally at home I have a couple Bobro mounts, ADM and an ARC mount. They don't get thrown around nearly as much as my work rifles but certainly am not easy on them. Return to zero is such a small factor when it comes to anyone in SOF it's not even a real consideration. I'm sitting on an upper with an Aimpoint, a separate upper with a Nightforce, and an M14 variant for various other roles. My point is you cannot argue contracts, SOF or otherwise as a proof of reliability.durability. Government procurement is for the masses and is all about getting ripped off at the lowest price.

Exactly, and even the units you talked about still deal with this BS. Can't count how many times I've submitted for one thing and got something that was "the same on paper" on the receiving end. Sole-source is really the best way to get what you want, but again completely different than the conversation here. HAHAHA and the bringing up the SOPMOD block 1 kit is priceless. But hey, it's SOPMOD so it must be the best. My favorite is actually way before that. The MK23 abortion. Yep, it sure did meet all the specifications laid out, but the dipshits writing the requirements and signing the contracts didn't realize the handgun was gonna be the size of a musket that George Washington used.
In a previous life, my office was 15 feet from the vault with the MK23 Trial pistols (along with about 1500 other of the rarest and coolest armaments ever made) with their B&T cans and LEM units. I think we had 4 of them in the armory at the time.

Knowing none of those guns would ever be fired again was the worst part. You would have to pay me 10x to live near DC again.
I have heard of a lot of Bobro mounts breaking. Even mrGunsNGear had one die. Maybe his dog did it, lol, but his stuff usually just sees square range use.
Ive seen picture and video proof. The faioures are all of 3 types. Sheared studs. Sheared recoil foot screws. Sliding around on the rail due to relaxed or narrow recoil foot spring.
I only owned 1 GDI, but saw a couple others. They sat crooked, required 20+ moa lateral adj, and marred the rail. Junk. *thry were t1 mounts.
Geissele makes awesome mounts. (I think Geissele makes awesome everything.) Buy with confidence, you won’t be sorry.
