Is there a way/kit to do a stock paint job to mimic the gel coat colors and feel or is that only possible during manufacture? I would be trying it on a B&C M40 stock. I want to try mimic the “smear” look like the MacMillans. Also more of a slight gloss finish.

Gelcoat is easy. Buy some base colors like White or grey from somewhere like West Marine or if youre lucky Home Depot or Lowes. You can also get pigments for gelcoat to make the base color into what ever you want.....then buy a Prival sprayer ($5 at home depot) which will get you a decent air brushed finish. Mask off the different shapes you want and BAM your rig will look just like the store bought one. The great thing about gelcoat is that it is so easy to repair....just sand the scratch or chip down and bevel the edges.....then fill with new gelcoat and let cure....sand it back level and you are good as new!

Make sure you buy either finishing Gelcoat (gelcoat needs to be sealed off from the air before it will full cure) that already has wax in it or apply PVA over the top once you are done painting.

Let me know if you have any questions...I work on Olympic race boats for a living and a perfect flawless gelcoat boat bottom is kinda my thing hahahaha
