Not 100% sure a 253 will work on a 56mm S&B ... I'm sure it can be made to work ... but might not work without some "spare parts".

Oh my ... need to learn how to do that !!! :D

thx !

For the 253 you have to pull the arms off the unit with those 4 bolts to gain access to the mount bolts. You remove those screws, then remove the 4 that attach the mount to the arms and mount it reverse on the bottom side of the arms. The studs towards the rear are just threaded and can be swapped to the bottom as well. Best way is a stud extractor but you can use needle nose and not jack them up if you're careful. Unless it's heavy recoiling the studs aren't a must to be swapped. They can be removed entirely and gain a little more mounting length by mounting the mount back in those holes as well. Gains another .3" IIRC.

Should I be shopping for a 253 then if I'm attaching to 56mm S&B? I was a 0311 in the 1970s. So my knowledge of simrads is ZERO.

There a reason you want the simrad? Is it cost? IIRC, they only work with one scope (you can't swap 'em around).

I have a thread up here about a PVS 30 for $4700. They are totally worth it --I got a personal bank loan for one, but needed to raise credit, etc. so it was 3 birds with one stone, as it were. May or may not be good for you, just what I did. Anyway, it'll work on any rifle, pretty much any scope, and even if the scope is off such as too low or has 10MOA like one of mine, as long as it sees green "good enough" it'll all still be zeroed and good to go. It's an amazing piece of gear.

It'll work with any optic but ideally ones in rings/mounts that are 1.54" or 1.50" from base to center. I like Badger, SASR 1.49" rings are great for a .50 or any big rifle and their 1 piece unimount at 1.54 is just dead on and they come in a size that'll accommodate USO erectors, which is nice. But one 2.5-8x MR/T is in a Larue SRS-S which is 1.44 and has 10MOA built in (I must have ordered the wrong one!) but it turns out it works just fine. The biggest 58mm USO 2-25 works fine as does the 44mm 3.2-17x. Like I said, works with so far anything that'll line up to it. And they said it can be mounted on an M2HB or .50 rifle, no problem.

I'm certainly not rich, and just went through a divorce and have to save every month plus pay bills, but what I do is save for the things I want and in this case a loan for a chance to get one of the toughest long range clip ons that normally go for more than $11,000 for $4700. No way I'd have been able to get it otherwise and I need to be able to swap it around.

Good luck either way you go! Just thought I'd mention it.

That's incorrect, they'll work on any scope that you put in Simrad compatible mounts with a rail. Either Spuhr mount with their A-0018 US Simrad rail, or Badger rings with the appropriate Simrad ring cap.

Ive seen and played with both the spuhr and badger simrad mounts. For a 203, is one better then the other in any way? Maybe better for some scopes over others? How about lockup and zero retention?

Thanks!

The Spuhr rail is a smidgen longer than the Badger. The advantage to Badger is that on scopes with long tube lengths you can get the ring close to the objective, but is the Spuhr separate rings work for your application then you can achieve the same thing. There's only a few scopes that this is required for like the Kahles 624. Most of the popular tactical scopes work fine with the one piece Spuhr and the rail.

I have both Badger and Spuhr ...

I see what redneck is saying about the badger further forward plus ...

On the Spuhr ... I can mount the radius/raptars on the 9 o'clock with the 253 on top.

WIth the 203, moving the SIMRAD rail to the 9 o'clock can cover the raptar/radius

but since I have the 253 and raptar/radius ... the spuhr does have another plus for me ...
