If I have missed a sticky covering this I apologize I also searched but came up with nothing. I know that most of the SWFA SS scopes out there are a good deal to be had. I have also heard that they went through a couple bad years where quality control fell for a little bit but recovered. Keeping that in mind, my question is, if I order from SWFA now is this stock of SS a good quality group? I dont know if possibly they have backed stock of some of the lesser quality optics. I am just trying to make sure this is money well spent and I would appreciate any info you experts out there could give me. Thanks so much.

I love my SS 12x42!!! SWFA now my go to scope people. In fact new SS scope I ordered should ship today.

I just got an SS 3-9. A couple years ago, I had one to review and while it was a great scope for the money even then, it's better now. This new one has perfect build quality, the turrets feel good and their mil-quad reticle is a big step up from the plain mil-dot that model used to have. I bought it as a stop-gap but think I'm going to keep it.

Should have my 12x42 today or tomorrow and looking forward to it. Reviews all look great for those of us who can't pay 1500 or more for an optic (gotta save SOME money for a stock). Dont expect to be disappointed.

It's good quality if you remember that it's a 300$ scope and not a 3000$ one. I have had a few and never had a problem with them, mil knobs on the newer ones are a nice touch.

If I am getting a fixed 10 power, what is the difference in quality between a $3,000 and the SS. Other than clarity and possible tracking. They are both FFP, and both fixed.

I bought a SWFA SS 16x in 2004 and so far it has been the best scope I've ever owned. The cosliest (and very good) was a Leupold and that's what I have to compare it to. I use it on a Savage model 12 HB .223 Rem, McMillan A-5 Stock and have the dope on it to 300 meters. From prone (bipod and bag) I was consistently grouping 2.5-3" groups at the 300M mark (with handloads, 69 gr SMK). This scope is probably more than I need but it was worth every penny and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is consistent through weather changes, after being bumped, my dog knocked my rifle over once of the bipods and the scope hit during it's trip over and still held the zero. I've kept meticulous notes on my shots and it is repeatable as well. I would recommend if your considering unless you really want to part with a lot more money.
For what it's worth I have one of these first gen and while they are OK for general shooting they are nothing to write home about.
