I thought id go ahead and confirm the already pretty well known fact that these trimmers are awesome. I received it a week after ordering it, and it was packaged very well! I had to do a small adjustment to the depth for the brass length but that only took about 5 minutes.

The trimmer is fairly quiet and the trim length adjustment was pretty easy to do.

Once up and running i did about 1500 .223 cases in 1.5/1.75 hours. its incredibly fast. Of the cases with matching head stamps, they were all within the .001 tolerance that was advertised. In-fact, most of them were right on the dot.

The only real improvement that i would say is that instead of coming with a standard nut, id like for it to have come with a lock ring like the Hornady dies. It wasn't a big deal to buy them separately, but for the price it would have been nice to have that included.

Re: Giraud Trimmer came in!

If all your going to use the Giraud for is one caliber there is no need for a Die Lock Ring, Doug has said many times that if he included one it would add to his cost and ours.

im using it for 4 calibers. i wouldnt mind paying the extra couple of dollars for one to be included, or at least an option when ordering.

I really dont want to spend another 500 putting together my reloading setup but the more I think about the more I think I have a call to make to texas on monday

Re: Giraud Trimmer came in!

I could find a pic of one, but can you throw up some pics of yours set up and let me take a look? I have not ever seen one? I guess I can do a search, but I like to see members stuff here.

yes, you need additional case holders at the minimum iirc they are $30. thats where i recommended getting the locknut. they keep you from re-setting the cutting depth each time you change a caliber.

if you want to do like i did and keep all re-calibration out of a caliber change, get an additional cutter head as well. then you just have to quick change out 2 parts and then you are good to go. i belive the cutter heads are $45.

when you order it, it comes setup for one caliber already.

as far as pictures, ill have to taek some later today when i get a chance. heres a picture of it and a video from online. they are about 10-11" wide and about 7" deep. pretty small all in all.

Re: Giraud Trimmer came in!

I bought a giraud just over a year ago and I love it, trimming brass took me longer than any other part of reloading, now it barly takes any time at all I can do 100 pcs in under 9 min, so thats 650+ pcs in an hr. its expensive but well worth it if you load a lot, I have inserts for .223, 308, 30/06, and 6.5 grendel. you can use the same cutter head for same caliber rounds, the .308 and 30/06 you can use the same cutter for, I have 3 cutter heads and just change them out so I dont have to reset them every time.

Re: Giraud Trimmer came in!

I've been using a Gracey trimmer for years. It's basically the forerunner of the Giraud and works the same way. It has one advantage - you can adjust the chamfer and deburring blades independently for brass that is thicker or thinner. This also means you don't have to cut a knife edge on the case mouth.

But the Gracey is an older, more basic design without a lot of the handy touches on the Giraud. I've been thinking seriously about upgrading.

And to answer the OP's question, yes, you can use the Giraud on as many different calibers as you want just by buying the $30 shellholder for each. Then you adjust the cutter to the new caliber, which is sometimes easier said than done until you get the hang of it.

Re: Giraud Trimmer came in!

I just got one of these last week too. I ordered it Thursday afternoon and it came the following tuesday. I dont think I could have handled the 2 week wait so the fast shipping was an unexpected surprise. I got it setup for 308. I did 700 cases in a little under an hour and a half. Measurements came out exact almost everytime and when they were off it was only by .001. So happy I finally got one of these.

Re: Giraud Trimmer came in!

In my opinion, the Giraud is a no brainer. It's pretty much like money in the bank. If you want to sell it, it's sold in 10 minutes for a few less dollars than new...

Say you purchase, use for two years, then sell for $400. It cost you $50 in "tooling" to trim however many cases over those two years. Considering the shittiest trimmer out there costs at least $50, and resells for zero. Still cost you $50 to trim those cases, but took you WAY longer.

A giraud can make you money...My partner and I have a deal: I tumble, anneal and trim his brass, he buys my primers. When you shoot 2500 rounds/year - thats worth something!

hmm interesting, i guess they were out when i ordered it. if it matters, i ordered through his wife. either way, its not a big deal to pick some up. i would have just bought some through him though given the chance.

trimmed another 1000 yesterday. this this is 100% worth the money.
