Giraud Trimmer

I have had the Giraud for awhile set up for my 6.5 Creedmoor, I recently bought the adapter and cutter for the fifty, that thing is the shit! I used to spend a few hours trimming 100 rounds, I got it set up tonight and did the 30 rounds I had decapped and re-sized, it made a grueling job quick and easy! That thing is worth its weight in gold!

It is an amazing piece of equipment! That was the first batch of fifty brass I had used it on (after looking at their website, initially I thought I had to buy a bigger motor and the whole setup to do the fifty brass, but after talking to them on the phone they explained they just made that one for "mass quantities" When they do the fifty cal machine gun shoots and are going through tens of thousands of rounds in a weekend and want to reload en-mass). I had procrastinated taking my 6.5 dies out too because I didn't know how much of a PITA it was going to be to switch between calibers, but it was not bad at all. They enclosed a correct length piece of brass and I used that like a go no-go guage to do the initial set up and measured the first few to make sure it was GTG and then went to town, beautiful!!!

I've got a couple of Graceys and the changeover between calibers is the reason I wish I had opted for the Giraud (I'm not sure Giraud was even around when I got my first Gracey). The changeover PITA is also the reason I got my second Gracey. All I have to do is plug in the second machine when switching between my two main calibers.

Giraud trimmers and Prometheus scales speed up reloading so much it ain't funny, but neither skip corners doing so, my off time is limited, I don't mind paying for the level of accuracy and convienence these products offer.

Great machine!

Not the best picture, but it leaves such a beautiful chamfer on the cases, it is like art work!

Made for a great weekend of shooting, went back to the 1800 yard line!

Better spending time at the range than in the reloading room!

man i need to get myself set up. my dad has the full setup and we trimmed about 1.5k 556 in under 2 hours, and thats while we were smokin and jokin around the whole time not even trying that hard

I agree.... price is offset by accuracy and convenience. That's usually what you get when you buy the best.

Yup, in the same boat here....those two tools have definitely given me more free time to do other things!

I just got my Giraud! I'm completely impressed and it is a huge time reducer.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but do you Giraud owners have issues with consistent trim lengths due to it headspacing off of the case shoulder? I have a Gracey and occasionally get inconsistent results. Sometimes I can't hear it cutting so I pull the case out and measure only to find that it's too long. I end up having to apply more pressure to get the cutter to dig in a bit more and it's a hassle. This happens even with like brass (same headstamp, sized the same).

I'm thinking about ditching it and getting the Dillon RT1200. Seems like the case lengths would be uniform since the measurement would be from the shellplate to the case mouth, independent of the shoulder. Unfortunately you lose the trim & chamfer in one step...

Adam I don't have any problems with consistency on mine, but I'm not super anal on trim lengths, +/- .002 is fine by me, 99.9% of the shooters in the world can't shoot the difference

That sold me on the unit two years ago. Takes a little dicking around to get the length set but then it's quick. And I don't get carpal tunnel syndrome turning the crank on my sinclair trimmer.

Nothing like that during my first 800 rounds of trimming. I full length size my cases, so perhaps my shoulders are more consistent.

I borrowed one from a friend and trimmed 3800 pieces of 223 in about 4-4.5 hrs. With my RCBS it would have taken me all winter.

I wouldn't trade mine for anything. I actually ENJOY trimming brass. Its fast, simple, and does 3 steps in one.

I thought the same thing...until I actually tried one, it is an amazing tool. Now that I have the dies and cutters for the 50 BMG as well as the 6.5 Creedmoor. It is an amazing tool and once you make the initial investment, the new dies are $50 or there abouts and makes the tool more versatile.

I have used both and I actually preferred the Dillon trimmers, I'm very anal about the chamfer being perfectly even and that's hard to get with the Giraud, especially if there is any run out in the case neck.

I now have two of the Dillon trimmers for my two most reloaded calibers and they are great, they cut super smooth so there is no deburring needed and the trim length stays +/-.001" or better so they are plenty accurate for even match ammo.

They are both fine machines and you'll be happy no matter which one you get, I just prefer the Dillon trimmers for their speed, accuracy, and not having to handle the brass again just to trim it.

1) Badass!!! I have owned mine for about 3 years now, all I can say is Badass! It really takes the worst part about reloading and make it fun.

2) Easy caliber swap. I have 2 separate heads, one set up for .308, and the other for .223, swapover between .223 and .l308 is easy. Easily less than 5 minutes.

3) Reliable! Between me and 2 other friends, we must have trimmed about 20,000 cases. It seems to cut and chamfer just as good as it did when it was new.

4) Consistent. If your full sizing die is consistent then your Giraud trims will be consistent. If you only neck size, even better! I usually set mine up for 2.006" for .308 and trimmed cases comes in that almost every time. Actually if you think about it, you should trim at the shoulders for neck sized cases.

5) Value! Well worth the money. After you trimmed your first 1000 case in about 1.5 hours, you already got your money back. The traditional way of Lee cutter with power drill, and chamfer will take about 5 hours for 1000 cases.

One of my buddy commented that it is probably the best reloading tool ever invented.

less time trimming does not mean more time shooting. For 1, we all are limited to the amount we can shoot due to our budget. Also going to the range more than 2 times a week means you have no life

less time trimming = more time to post on the internet!

I am really happy with mine. I did change the cutters. I like how the gracey design is. Leaves the out side square and puts a angle on the inside.

Question: How hard is it to adjust the cutter blade ? I've got mine set up for 7wsm, but will be doing 308 as well. I did not order the cutter for 308.

After talking with Hognuts, and D. Miller I bought some brass over and zipped through 200 pieces on D. Millers in about 20 minutes. I cursed very loudly after, put my head down, and ordered one. Should be here in a day or two.

Expensive yes, but man does it work.
