Hello all. I am new to posting but have learned alot from reading. I have just finished my first "precision" semi and I am in need of some opinions on rings and glass for it. Its a loaded M1A in a JAE-100 chassis with an ARMS18 scope mount. Was looking at BurrisXtreme rings and a Viper 6.5-20 Mil-dot. I dont wanna spend more than $800 on rings and glass at this time so please keep that in mind. Thanks for the help in advance.

Re: Glass and rings for my M1A in a JAE-100......

I'm working on pretty well the exact same rifle, but I have a higher glass/rings budget.

One of the questions I've had to ask my self (and it's the reason I haven't bought scope rings yet) is this:

Are you still going to try and use the iron sights or is it a scope-only gun from here on out? That'll be a big factor in ring height. My answer was "yes", I want to use the irons still. I'll have to get taller rings because of it.

Re: Glass and rings for my M1A in a JAE-100......

You want the lowest rings you can get when scoping an M1A. I have a USO SN3 3.2-17x44mm scope with low ARMS #22 rings mounted to my LRM M25 in a JAE-100G2 stock. If I want to switch to irons, I can easily remove the scope because the rings have quick-detach levers.

The SN3-2200 scope is also a good choice. You won't need a spotting scope anymore if you use that.

I also have a SA M1a Std-Loaded. I mounted a NF 5.5-22x56 on it. As far as iron sights, I didn't pay $2k for a scope that I think might let me down and then I would have to use iron sights. I have a JAE100 G3 on order. I went with a Sadlack mount, and Badger Rings. Buy once, cry once...

Regards,

Rick

I am starting to think Viper PST or Bushnell Elite Tactical with Burris medium height tactical rings. What do you guys think. I can spend a little more than what I stated in my OP. I can spend 1K on rings and glass.

I've used Burris Extreme Tac rings and Vortex scopes on several of my guns and have been very satisfied. I also have a Viper PST FFP (not for my M1A) and a Gen 3 JAE stock (for my M1A) on order . I think you will be very pleased with that combination for the price.

When you get it all set up and some quality range time in, please do a range report and take some nice photo's of the rifle and groups. JAE stocks are quite pricey, but everything I've read about them has been very positive. I always appreciate hearing range reports of M1A's especially in JAE stocks.

The JAE stock is a real nice piece. It kinda broke my Dad's heart to see an M1A in an aftermarket chassis sytem but I love the way it looks and feels. I cant wait to shoot it but the decision on glass has been going on for a while. I think I am gonna go the PST and Burris route.

I just had one of my PST orders filled so I should have it later this week. Hopefully I'll get some range time over the weekend, and have time to post some sort of a report. The JAE is not the "traditional" look of an M1A, but it sure is purdy.

Re: Glass and rings for my M1A in a JAE-100......

The NF has crystal clear glass, and is the best scope I ever owned or looked thru. That being said, I am probably going to put a Vortex Viper PST FFP on a AR-SPR I'm currently building. It will be half the cost of my NF, I hope I am not dissapointed.
