I posted a thread a while back about a Springfield TRP i was looking into. While i am still looking into it as a range/fun gun, now Im entertaining a Glock 34 purchase for range/target use. Ammo prices are pushing me toward a 9mm. Will i be happy with it? I have a Glock 26 for carry, and i have shot many Glocks, though never a 34.

Also, is it rugged enough for carry/service use? That cut out on top of the slide worries me it wont cut it as a service gun

Re: Glock 34, convince me

Unless you are designated for Tactical duties I doubt your dept would let you carry for Duty Sidearm. And me personally if I am sporting regular duty rig, I would not want the additional bbl and slide length to draw if called upon.

I have many Glocks including a 34, I use my 34 mostly for comps, as it was set up that way.

Even my drop leg duty rig sports the 40cal G22. But I enjoy and very much like my 34 for it's intended purpose.

You won't be disappointed.

Re: Glock 34, convince me

The cutout on top is for wieght control, Glock controls slide speed by the wieght of the slide, that way they don't have stock an assortment of recoil springs, 17/22 17L/24 and 34/35 all use the same recoil spring assy, I went with a Glock 35, my reloads are just as soft as a 9 but pack more steel plate knock down power, plus if I wanted I can install a 9mm barrel in it(not a factory 34 barrel and definitely not a lone wolf) and have a 9 if I need one, plus Glock also recently came out with a 22 round 40 mag, the 34/35 IMHO are the best full size Glocks out there, choose either and shoot the shit out it.

Re: Glock 34, convince me

I held one today at the local gun shop and i really like it. as much as i like the 17, because the frame is the same. Im sure it will outshoot me.

So basically you are all gonna recommend it?

Re: Glock 34, convince me

As soon as anything gets in the cut out on top, its not gonna cycle.

I think im gonna get one, and then if i need a service gun later, ill pick up a 17 or 19.

dont know what you plan on putting in your slide cutout(shoo goo, JB weld?) but its never been a problem for me, and mine has 6,000 rds plus down it

Re: Glock 34, convince me

So wait, first you wanted us to convince you to get a Springfield and now a Glock cause you didn't listen... j/k

It's a Glock, nuff said.

Seriously, I've owned 5 Glocks in my life, I keep saying I won't get another one and then I do. I keep doing it because they are good guns for a good price. They're a little on the boring side, but fun to shoot, easy to shoot well, blah blah blah durrable, blah blah blah reliable, Lee Ermey says they're good, easy to clean, I think every good vault should have one. Who cares what model, they all work well. They just won't ever stop invading my damn wallet.

I listened, i still want a TRP. I just also like the 34 now that ive held a few. I need to rent a TRP and a 34 and shoot both. It snot one or the other. I want both

Re: Glock 34, convince me

I have a G35 I use in competition and it totally rocks!!! I installed a Dawson Ice magwell, Dawson iron rear/fiber optic green front, Ghost Inc trigger, and I'm really really happy with it!!!

A G34 will be just as awesome. I just chose the .40 for the power factor to shoot major in USPSA.

You won't be disappointed at all. A 1911 is an emotional choice, and an addiction in and of itself.

Get the G34, shoot the hell outta it, then when you get the TRP you'll be able to savor the fine points.

OR,. . . get both ($$$ allowing!)

Sounds like Glock45 and I think alike.

Re: Glock 34, convince me

Even under harsh conditions, the G34/G35 performed far better than imagined. The slide cut-outs didn't have any negative effect on their reliability. Buy it -

I agree 100%. I have shot a 34 and have had two 35's. They shoot awesome, I know that in some of the matches guys port their 34/35 but I never did. I almost picked up a 34 at the last show but just couldn't justify it. If it had been a 35, I would have with no questions asked. A Glock is a Glock but the 34/35 have a lot better trigger in them and are a little more accurate (for me at least) probably due to a longer barrel. I carried my 35 and liked it. I like 40 over 9mm. Don't know about the dept on duty carry and it would have to get a awful lot of junk in it for it to hold the slide. I would not worry about the cutouts but I would put some night sights on it if I were going to carry on duty with it. You won't be disappointed in it!! If you like Glock, you'll love the 34/35.

Re: Glock 34, convince me

So this is the one Cheely posted on Brian Enos. Very nice 34, how did the trigger job come out? I want a range report.

Re: Glock 34, convince me

I have had nothing but great luck out of my 34. If you like the grip angle of a 1911 you can always get a grip reduction. Dave Bowie did this one for me along with a 19. I think you'd enjoy a 34. I've heard really good things about the M&P Pro Line in 9mm as well.

join GSSF the discount coupon you receive will off set the price of your new 34. I have owned lots of Glocks. Sold my 17L and kept the model 34. Every man needs two!

Re: Glock 34, convince me

The Glock 34 can wear many hats. It's records in IDPA/IPSC speak for itself. Put a light on it, stuff it with Corbon DPX, and you have 18 rounds of hurt to put out for home defense. It's as reliable as any other Glock (which is to say its as reliable as any other pistol), and plenty of cops carry it in their duty rig (nobody complains about the extra .5 inch of clearance when they talk about their 1911).

The only thing I don't like is the extended magazine catch and extended slide stop, but those can be changed out in about 12 seconds each.
