I have an old gen 2 glock 17 that my mom bought for me when I was 14, but I think its time to do something with it. It was a police trade in with the 17 rd mags during the ban, so thats why I picked that one, before I knew about the differences between gen 2 and 3. Part of me wants to send it to Bowie Tac or Robar for a little grip work and a new slide finish. The other part says just get a gen 3 frame.

Also I would want to update the internals, new springs and all with a $.25 trigger job.

My questions

Is there a way to add rails to a gen 2 glock?

What internals need to be replaces?

Re: Glock needs some TLC

Gen 2 is perfectly fine man. Unless you want the rail because you want to put a flashlight and / or laser on the rail, why change it?

If you want to upgrade it to a Gen 3, just sell the Gen 2. You should be able to get $350 from it easy, and buy a brand new Gen 3 for $450. $100 is a lot less than you'd spend trying to upgrade it.

As for the internals being upgraded, is it failing somewhere? Put 500 rounds through it and if it isn't broken, don't fix it

Contact Ben at Boresight Solutions. He can help you with the rails for a light and can fix your grip to your liking. His prices are pretty good to. I had him do some work on my Glock 27 not to long ago.

Re: Glock needs some TLC

If you're doing internals, I suggest a Glockworx spring kit. Good springs that lighten trigger pull. While you're at it, pick up their V2 race connector and you should be around 2.5lbs for about $20. If you want to go all out, you could get their skeletonized striker but on a 9mm, I've found that it isn't necessary unlike the .45/10mm. If you choose to call in the order, ask for Ray and let him know I sent you

Re: Glock needs some TLC

You can send it back to Glock and they will upgade/replace any internals that need it for free and while its there you can swapout your gen2 for a gen3 for I think either $150 or 175.Or find out the nearest GSSF competition and there should be Glock armorers on hand to upgrade your gun.

My FIL sent in his 2nd gen 17 because after nearly 15 years of ownership, he finally got tired of it throwing brass back at the shooter (brass would literally hit you in the forehead) and they replaced every part except the polymer receiver.
