was at an estate sale a few weeks ago, and picked up a nice mantle clock for $100.........took it to my clock guy for service, and come to find out its worth $1200......i was super excited with that.....i really dont know what i would do if someone told me it was worth over a million dollars.

That may depend. there are only about 3o-35 or so known first phase Chief's blankets in existence. There will never be another...just like Rembrant paintings. The people who have the money to buy them pay CASH. From what Ive seen investing in them is far more lucrative than the stock market. It could sell for double or triple that in 5 years.
You can tell someone is able bodied by watching 6 minute video? I talked to a guy I went to school with for a couple hours the other night. He could not tell I was disabled. He asked me why I was delivering pizza instead of working at the shop that hired me when we graduated, "did you get tired of working on trucks," he said. I laughed and said ",yes." You can't look at the outside and tell how someone is doing. Only people that know me and see my struggles really know what I go through on a day to day basis. Sure 25 days a month I might be walking around like a stiff 35 year old, but then a couple of those other days, I may not be able to stand, or get out of bed even.
Point being, sometimes its best not to judge others.

You don't just go on disability by your choice. You have to have doctors that say you can not work in any capacity. Then the SSD[social security disability] chooses a doctor for you to go to, who must also come to the same conclusion. That you can not work in any capacity. Then you are followed by private investigators pretty much forever, trying to prove you can work.

Beyond physical issues are you saying he couldn't sit at home and be employed by a customer call center remotely? He sure seemed to be able to talk to the camera, so if he has anxiety issues he obviously can get over them. He would obviously speak better English than ever other "customer representative" I have had to talk to in the last 30 years.

You say I am naive and that may be true. But i believe in the human spirit and if you are consuming Oxygen under your own power there is something you could do. Hell go to a hospital and read books or tell stories to sick children.
I do understand that investigators are always watching. They are looking for physical issues. Yet 1/2 the jobs in American anymore require little to no physical activity.
Are you saying he couldn't learn coding and work as a computer programmer? As a tax payer i would rather pay for that education and get him back in to the "positive" tax flow instead of be negative tax flow for the next 40 years.
12x40x800=$380,000. Vs paying 20-30k for new education and paying 10k in taxes the next 38 years.

I would sell it also, as I have no need for a 1.5 million dollar blanket. Obviously at this point the blanket had no sentimental value. You missed my point, I would sell it But I would NOT NEED to sell it. Also with anything like that the bottom could drop out of the market at anytime. If your kids are not connected with you (Mcameron yours will be I am sure reading your other posts) or your objects then it doesn't matter what it is if they just think of it as something to sale after your gone. 1.5 million dollar blanket or 1.5 million dollar gun collection (which weighs more a pound of bricks or a pound of feathers).
While some disabilities are hidden, from the description he gives it doesn't seem like he is unable to do anything to earn a living.

Giving this guy the benefit of the doubt.....because the video doesnt give too much detail.......but im going to assume this guy hasnt been living for years and years on disability.
assuming his only injury is his foot, im assuming hes on disability because he was some type of laborer, and not an "office worker".......so assuming he cant labor any more, he needs to find a new trade, and possibly learn a new set of skills, which is no trivial task.
now last time i was unemployed, it took me over a year to find actual gainful employment.....now i worked small jobs....but i still had to dip into savings......and came damn close to running in the red myself....and i also wasnt dealing with supporting a family, an amputated foot, and a mountain of medical bills.....
so i dont really think its fair to criticize this guy without knowing the full details.

Talk that shit, baby. I hurt so much I wake up 4-5 times per night. Have since I damaged my neck 60 years ago. But I can still put in an 8 hour day, you just mask the pain.

I dont know if they still have this exemption but they used to allow one time unusually large incomes to be averaged over several years rather than take it all at once. Yours is probably set because you earn that much each year.
Ive been following the art and fine objects market for a while and the bottom usually doesnt drop out of stuff at that level. The market for stuff in the $50K rangeis dead. The bankers wiped out that part of the middle class in 2008. People who can buy stuff like this dont worry about the bottom dropping out because the bottoms of their pockets are so deep. “We are delighted to have been able to exhibit this masterful portrait for the first time in nearly forty years leading up to the auction, and to have seen it realize such a strong price that reflects its importance and magnitude,” said Richard Knight, international co-head of old masters at Christie‘s.
The last time the 1658 Rembrandt painting was sold at auction was in 1930 when it fetched 18,500 pounds. It later went into a series of private collections in the United States and was last seen in public at an exhibition in Detroit in 1970.
The top price at auction for any old master picture is 49.5 million pounds ($77 million) for “The Massacre of the Innocents” by Peter Paul Rubens set at Sotheby’s in London in 2002.
No, I am saying if he is on full disability it is because a doctor put him there. I have no idea on his specifics, other than, if he is on disability, multiple doctors have attested that he can not work in any capacity. He could be on TTD[temporary total disability] if he is injured to the point he can not work now but is expected to be back at work within 1 year. Or his 800 a month could be part of a structured settlement for his PPD[permanent partial disability] If it is, he is injured way worse than just losing his foot, because partial body injuries don't pay out very well. And he could be looking for a job. Of course not being able to stand for long could be tough for a laborer in any job market.
I know plenty of guys more able bodied than myself, who collect more in disability from the military then I ever saw for my work place injury.

You also might want to go study how social security works, and understand he isn't to being paid, "your tax dollars."

Social Security Disabilty is not a welfare program. Not sure where that comes from, I have a couple friends declared disabled, their checks based on earnings paid in. They were declared disabled to work in the fields they came from, just say logging, they do not have to trained to be wal mart checkers. It's a program designed to insure a worker to maintain slightly what he had before, why go from fully insured to part time status.
Not sure where (REDACTED) supercorndog is coming from, there is no such thing as temporary total disability, you are either disabled or not. The money you take home is based on what you and employer paid into the system.

SSD does not pay for losing your career field. If you were a top diesel tech at a shipping company. They don't give a shit if you can only flip burgers or stand or sit for an hour or 2 at time. If you can do any kind of work, you are not eligible for SSD. This is straight from my injury lawyers mouth.

The issue/argument here being about "disability" and what is it, to be disabled. Some get it, whilst others simply don't have a clue. I truly PRAY that you don't learn it for yourselves, the hard way.
I remember life before the accident. I remember the schooling, and on-the-job training I did, for years, to build my career. I remember the studying, and the testing, and the anxiety over the result. (Ranking, no passing) I remember all of the additional courses/upgrades that I took, just to not only keep up, but to 'get ahead' of what was coming around the curve.
I also remember the actual working of my career, all the overtime, and all of the "can you stay later yet" and the "can you come back in again" because of what I did. Or was able to do, as opposed to others.
I also remember the accident. God Knows, how I wish I were knocked out, but unfortunately it is a stop-motion 1080p HiDef video that is able to be played whenever I want it to be. Sometimes even, when I don't want it to. I also sorta remember that I lived in the hospitals (2) for "some months" and then months later, I had to start learning how to walk again.
The one good thing I can say, is that my left arm WASN'T broken. (read between the lines, then subtract 5)
And as for the rest of it, other than little glimpses,,, I don't remember shit. My Lady is my memory. Ya'll have no idea what My Lady does, nor do you have any idea how BAD it makes me feel as a man, to have to tell ya'll that not only does My Lady do the grass cutting around here, but she also shovels the snow. Humbling statement there, isn't it?
There's things I remember in the past decade, but how they're connected to anything usually needs to be explained and/or decrypted between us, cause I don't have a clue. (This is a daily situation) And yet then there are other things that I remember clearly. Ya'll have any idea how frustrating it is?
Oh Yeah, and another thing. I can tell you when the weather is changing. Before it does, of course. There are definitely days where I can't move at all. And just because there are 'some' meds to take care of 'some' of the issues,,,, don't fool yourself into thinking that it is golden, and without side-effects and/or other negative consequences.
The fact that I'm alive, yes, I'm definitely Blessed. The fact that I can shoot prone, absolutely Blessed. The fact that the other guys on the line have to be patient, cause it takes me a bit longer to get up, and clear my stuff (numerous trips) off the line for the next string.... is just something to deal with. Often, a few others will jump-in and assist me/gather my things.
Any idea what it's like to have thousands of dollars worth of tools, and no be able to change your own alternator anymore, simply because you can't bend over that much to do so? Would you like to have the word "frustrated" re-defined, to a more "honest" degree?

only people I seen doing decently ob disability are NYC cops and NYFD, some had been burned and some shot, one Baltimore cop friend was shot and almost dead, he is on disability but has done so well in life since he only gets a med stipend and sends back the rest of his benefits, shot like his second week on job in the 70's. Every one of them worked at a second career.
