Worth every second of hooky for a kid's shooting event. I've skipped out several days over the years for my nephew's 4H State Competition.
That's awesome bro. Have you had him shooting Natty Light cans out of your hand to get him used to shooting under pressure?
Some boys out in Oregon used to shoot them off each other's heads with their bows. I guess it was pretty fun until somebody forgot to aim up a little.

he did well, didnt place but he shot well and was a good sport...
damn, some off those kids, you just dont want to get lippy with them, shit, shooting a ka zillion bulls like they did...
it was a tough crowd to place in

Post some targets... Well the ones with 5 shot groups. You know how folks around here are when it comes to three shot groups....

That's awesome, I'm glad to hear they're still doing rifle comps. I shot JROTC Rifle Team for three years back late 80s/early 90s, led it my senior year too. I was nothing to brag about then, always finished upper mid pack for the most part (we competed at 10m 3-position air rifle at another school, but we could only practice in the classroom at my school so were limited to about 5-6m), but I learned something each time out. Certainly laid the ground for proper marksmanship fundamentals for me, you get decent shooting squirrels and all, but there's nothing like shooting for a tiny dot to get a "10" on open sights at 10m with a .177 cal.
