for that price range, CZ 455 american or varmint.

insanely consistant even with bulk ammo, ability to change calibers in like 5 minutes, there are a few match barrels out there now, surely there will be more to follow.

i've had (have) the savages, and they are nice, but the CZ is the "next level" IMO.

Re: Good 22 bolt rifle for around 400 bucks?

I saw them CZs and I liked them immediately! Im not a Savage fan so would never consider them even though Im doing this for my buddy, course I told him to get an Anschutz but he doesnt want to pay the price for one.

Re: Good 22 bolt rifle for around 400 bucks?

Don't know about the CZ, don't own one and haven't shot one. I have shot my son's Savage MKII BTV many times and have found it to be very accurate and comfortable to shoot from any shooting position. From the praise the CZ's get, I doubt you could go wrong with one, but I wouldn't write off the MKII BTV. It would be nice if you could try both.

At what yardage and how big is the hole? LOL After a 20 shot group at 50yds my Cooper LVT will make one big ragged hole with Wolf MT.

Re: Good 22 bolt rifle for around 400 bucks?

CZ452 American
My CZ will shoot sub-MOA with Wolf MT out to 200+yds.
Also have the CZ Scout with the 16" bbl for squirrel hunting.

another vote for the cz455 varmint. i've owned savage in the past and the cz is clearly a step above.

If you do offhand shooting more,

CZ 452/455 Lux or FS

Here is my 455 Lux. Trying to buy 10rd .22lr magazine. but $35 for a tiny magazine?

Re: Good 22 bolt rifle for around 400 bucks?

Savage Mark II
there are a variety to choose from in this line (heavy barrels, threaded barrels, different stocks)

They all have the Accu-trigger

Re: Good 22 bolt rifle for around 400 bucks?

CZ rimfires are great for the money.Purchased a CZ452 back in 03 and have accumulated five more. $400 is what I paid for my latest 455.

Re: Good 22 bolt rifle for around 400 bucks?

Savage MKII TR.

Yeah the CZZ trainer sure looks nice though, but thats $800 with that Manners stock, before optics. After I scoped my MKII TR and added a bipod, upgraded the bottom metal, I was about at the list price for that 455 Varmint Precision Trainer. I won't make the argument that one is better than the other though.

Yep, a $500.00 stock can sure raise the price of it. Of course I bought the stock for my 452 Varmint. No regretts.

Re: Good 22 bolt rifle for around 400 bucks?

I got a Savage MK II from Bud's gun shop, Boyd's Tacticool stock, DIP bottom metal and action screws, Center Point scope from Walmart. Total cost; about $400. Had to pillar bed it because the action screws kept loosening. Before pillar bedding, it shot 1 1/2" 50 yard groups, now its 1/2" groups. Pretty good deal if you like tinkering. If you don't, pay more money and get the CZ.

Re: Good 22 bolt rifle for around 400 bucks?

I can't say enough good things about my CZ 455 Varmint. I loved it when it was stock, and now I love it even more sitting in the Manners T4 + the YoDave trigger kit.

The Manners stock is pricey (and worth every damn penny IMHO), but entirely optional. The YoDave trigger kit is cheap and should be considered a no-brainer.

+1 on all this. I only differed by using the adjustable sear and spring kit from DIP as opposed to the YoDave. I did have a loaner YoDave in it until I was able to obtain the sear from DIP (backorder), and it was great.
The Manner's stock is killer, feels just like my GAP long range rifle in a T4-A.

Re: Good 22 bolt rifle for around 400 bucks?

CZ 452 or better yet 455
hand down the best .22 bolt action for around 400 bucks today
id go with the 455 because its current production unlike the 452 which is no longer in production . Also the 455 is multi calibur like the quad and easier to find.

Not exactly 400 bucks but with a 455 base you can eventially build this and it shoots 1-1/2 to 1 inch at 100 consistantly
My sons 452 not 400 but is a 1-1/2 inch shooter at 100
